Feck off. Tiddlywinks is a proper sport.

We could at least buy them proper hurleys.
Those things they wield cost a fortune. Composite materials, weight-balanced to allow reverse stick work, balanced to the toe end, and resilient to clashes. They've become a very serious bit of kit.

I beg to differ. In this case it would surely mean 'gurl-hurls'.
I played hockey and hurling for a good few years, got more injuries from hockey. Gurley Hurley it is not

They're actually much closer in shape to the original hurleys than the modern hurley is. Think shinty.

First time any senior Irish team has reached the final of a major team sport competition. And, unlike our soccer and rugby players, these ladies are amateurs, playing against professionals. In fact, they each had to dig into their own pockets to be there!

Our biggest team sporting achievement ever - no matter what the result tomorrow. An all-Ireland team too. Great ambassadors for Ireland and womens sport. Be proud!

If you have never played it….
Ridiculously fast - water based "astroturf" pitches transformed the game
Exhausting
Rolling subs so the game doesn't stop
Players 100% obey the umpires
The women play through crazy injuries - in the 2012 Olympics one of the GB team broke her jaw in a game and was playing the next game with her jaw wired back together

Agree with everything you say. The problem is that it's often too fast for TV and thus doesn't appeal to the armchair fan.

They don't always obey the umpire.
(says I with many years umpring experience!)

They are tough characters alright, the hockey players. I worked with a former England hockey player and you wouldn't want to meet her on a dark night.
