Yes, I agree that we need some new young blood in Clare, not the old fogies with out dated and outmoded ideas. Greed and Gombeenism has destroyed our country - enough is enough! Who is going to represent the ordinary working class people of Clare? 'Working Class ' at present means ' not working ' as we have given most of our jobs to immigrants.

Could not agree more but have you seen the ages of the proposed candidates Joe Carey is the youngest by a mile. The rest are mostly if not all over fifty. Johnny Flynn in the paper pulled out of FG selection process. Sean Hayes for SF has ruled himself out if you read Sean81 whom I assume is him. Working Class has long been a phrase forgotten but to me the working class people of this country will once again be the people to bring this country out of the hole its in by having to take the pain for the greedy middle/upper class in society.:-:)-:)-(

Since my first reply to this thread up till now I finally realise that there is not one party in Clare that is united and ready for the challenges ahead. Suddenly James Breen looks like a pretty good bet and I feel sick at the thought of it. Got off a plane from Australia last week I think I should just go back A.S.A.P

sf have put up posters in west clare, north clare and ennis calling on people to join them on the 4th of december in dublin to protest against savage budget cut. sf had a leaflet campaign against such cuts in ennis and surrounding areas last saturday and it will run over the next two weeks. why dont the other parties start a campaign like this and show the people you are on their side for a change. i would call on all general election candidates to get on the streets and let the people know where you stand you dont need and election to talk to people in the streets.

Sinn Féin have no chance of winning a seat in the upcoming election. Fianna Fáil will definately get one candidate over the line and will come close to a second seat. James Breen is probably over the hill to regain his seat but will be the candidate that will challenge FF for the second seat. However I still think that James Breen will have no issue this time to campaign on as the economy crisis vote will transfer to FG/ Lab candidates. Labour will not win a seat in Clare either. Pat Breen will win a seat for FG as should Joe Carey. There will be no 3rd seat for FG. I still think Clare is one of a minority of counties that could still return 2 FF candidates to the Dáil. My prediction is FG 2 FF 2

Christ just noticed this on the local radio staion clarefm. Proof of whats been said, truly sad.

poll
What party will you vote for in the next General Election?
Fianna Fail
35%
Fine Gael
24%
Labour
17%
Independent/Others
25%
What would you expect from Clare people, they have a completely different view of the world from most people. Everyone is out to get them or do them or both.!!!

I think the 4 year plan makes no difference because whatever government gets into power now will have to make drastic measures to get our finances back to some shape or form

So far the candidates are:

FF - Tony Killeen, Dummy Dooley and probably some other sacrificial lamb
FG - Joe Carey (dull and pro-Kenny), Pat Breen (dull and anti-Kenny)
Labour - Paul O'Shea more than likely or Pascal Fitzgerland
SF - Cathy McCafferty
Indos - James Breen (genuine enough man but at 65 he's past it)

Does anyone know if Davy Fitz is going to run for Labour? If he does he has a good chance because many people don't vote on the basis of policies but on the basis of personality. Davy wouldn't be widely recognised as having a lot to offer the body politic but this won't make any difference (has any other candidate much to offer?) This would change the dynamics (!) of the election. It would become FG -2, FF -1 and Lab -1

Davey Fitz is not on the Labour ticket. Nothing has been agreed yet.

I was just livid when I read in our local papers that Killeen and Dooley are expected to keep their seats in Clare! Well who the hell would vote for party that has brought our country to the brink of economic ruin? Now I am sure that Killeen and Dooley are nice guys and very charming to speak to, but the reality is that they belong to a government who have allowed the bankers and developers to gamble away the futures of unborn generations of our people. Is it the farmers who are still supporting FF? I am just waiting for some Fianna Failer to come to my door canvasing - he'll leave with a buzz in his ear!

Davy Fitz has no interest in politics so that rules him out. Cant believe that Labour have not chosen their candidate yet though. As i said in a previous post Clare is 1 of a minority constituency who will always return 2 constituencies for reasons that go back to de Valera. On another note I see Madelene Taylor Quinn is interested in running again. How many times has she to be rejected by the Clare electorate to keep running again??

They can now only run McCafferty and I did'nt know much about her so I googled her. Appears she runs a newspaper which has been to court for printing alleged untruths about a political opponent. She wont be getting my vote thats for sure.
With all due respect, you have no idea whatsoever about that case.

The FG's have rejected her let alone the Clare electorate, in the absence of a decent labour candidate there is no reason FG could not win 3 out of 4 I hope they don't make a balls of it again

According to Tribune today Michael McNamara (Barrister who ran in the Euros) will be the labour candidate... anyone know more?

I had suggested he would run earlier in this thread and another poster did suggest that Labour were tapping him up

Any thoughts on the man I know very little about him only that he seemed OK on Clare FM

I think MacNamara ran in the European elections but didnt come any bit near to winning a seat, I think Labour will find it very difficult to win a seat in Clare now given that they havent chosen a candidate that could potentially win a seat. I think none of their sitting county or town councillors in Clare will win a seat. I think O Shea is confident he will get the go ahead but he has little profile. FG have no chance of winning 3 seats in Clare. I think FG will hold on to their two seats however but will be well short of a third

Someone please set up a campaign to get rid of that right tosser Dooley. I'd actually rather have 3rd Blueshirt rather than him.

They don't have candidates which would be well known though I'd say witht the Gilmore gale they'll get someone in.
