Revealed: The salary hike TDs will pocket over the next three years

- Taoiseach's pay due to jump by €21,000 over next three years
- TDs to get salary rises worth more than €3,600
- Finance Minister considering delaying the increase

TDs are in line for two pay rises worth more than €3,600 on the first day of the new year - and the Taoiseach's pay is set to soar by more than €21,000 in the next three years under a new wage deal.

Wages of deputies would rise from €89,965 to more than €93,598 on January 1 because of a wage increase due under the Lansdowne Road Agreement, plus a second pay rise of 1pc due under a new extension to that deal.
As I mentioned elsewhere .. Leos hike pretty much the same as yearly wage for low paid minimum wage worker?

And this does not include the gold plated pensions that Taoiseach and TDS get that will no doubt be bumped up also in line with the wage increase?

But shur Celtic Tiger 2 is underway, we have recovered, the boom nua is back .. so WHY NOT? They deserve it surely?

There should be a metric to measure how well the country is going. Some combination of GDP growth, homelessness stats, HSE waiting lists, etc. And tie TD wages to that.

Imagine how much talent the corporate world is missing out on with various TDs serving the nation. Mind you their expenses departments would be hugely relieved at not having to explain the vouched expenses system to puzzled former TDs.

'No. The allowance isn't a 'target'...'

I doubt they would. And they would be very surprised at the lack of sympathy for mileage claims, expenses, 'fact-finding' missions and drinking sessions in the upper reaches of the corporate world from finance departments.

However, he said the gross salary is currently €190,233, although the Taoiseach has waived a €4,833 increase that was due in April.

You missed this Robut during your whinge :)

Lets see how many refuse the increases across all parties :(

I seem to remember Bertie or was it FATSO Cowen being on something close to €300,000 or was it more ?

Meanwhile in the UK:

https://wageindicator.co.uk/main/pay/vip-celebrity-salary/theresa-may

Theresa May - Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

Annual: GBP 149,440.00
So May earns ST£149,440 .. that is €169,112

Leo / Irish Taoiseach BEFORE this hike - €190,233

Leo / Irish Taoiseach AFTER this hike - €211,588

So HAMMER .. even before this hike & foregoing amounts as you mention .. the Irish Taoiseach IS STILL earning a decent amount more than the PM of the UK? Anything wrong with that picture?

Considering the UK has around 65 MILLION population supporting that, we have less than 5 million

Scandalous what high paid public servants get paid.

Isn`t The Taoiseach salary bench marked against them ?

Didn't a stat come out that each county Librarian earns more than The Spanish PM, although given yesterday, most county librarians could do a better job as the Spanish PM than the one actually in place!

TBH .. the bold part at the end is the biggest metric for me. Having a tax base, taxpaying workforce size surely should in some way dictate what public reps are paid?
