CIVILIZATION V

and its predecessors.
when did CIV 5 come out? - Im still on CIV 4 - well actually I have them all

Is it any good? - any real improvements or changes from CIV 4?

Would be interesting to see how many P.ie folk play or have played CIV - its a real politicos game and quite educational in many ways aswell.

Tropico 3 | Kalypso Media

Tropico 3 and its expansion = pure bliss to play! :)

The time is yesterday and the Cold War is in full swing. Through means devious and dubious you have seized power in the Caribbean island country of Tropico, where you now rule as the all-powerful "El Presidente".

You decide whether you want to use your army to secure your power base in the best traditions of corrupt, unscrupulous tyrants everywhere or lead your people to prosperity in your role as generous elder statesman.

No matter whether you turn Tropico into a vacation paradise, a police state or a modern industrial nation - you will always have to defend your actions before your people! Wander through Tropico as El Presidente in order to intimidate political opponents, hold populist speeches or just to enjoy your country's own Caribbean flair.

Don't forget to keep a sharp eye on the dangers and side-effects of your absolute power! Danger lurks on every corner, be it militant revolutionaries bent on installing a communist junta, or the machinations of the superpowers USA and the Soviet Union, both of whom would like to see a more amenable ruler in strategically important Tropico!

History takes its course with events such as the Cuba crisis, papal visits and other actual decisive historical events.

The only question is whether or not you can play a role in that history!

Civ V is great. A real overhaul of the series and all for the better IMHO

I LOVE CiV. I could never go back. Another few patches are required but I am having a lot of fun when I have the time to play it. I wont play it until I can allocate 2 full days, heh :D

Nope Championship Manger, have played the current Football Managers but my laptop is not top spec so only runs the old Champ Mans, getting a new one in a few weeks will get the new one then...
Cool, thats good :) Make sure its good because Football managers now do quite a bit of number crunching. On bigger leagues etc even on top machines it can get very slow.

Also keeps you good for future releases and also you might get to enjoy Civilization 5 :)

Actually if you play Command & Conquer Generals you get to be the Soviets and you can take over the world!! It is a strategy game and requires a fair bit of resource management. Good bit of escapism.

Starcraft 2 would be the best bet in this league I think.

Aside from that nothing compares to the complexities of the Civ series or the Tropico series even. :)

Generals was pretty decent, I completed it but Starcraft 2 blows it away beyond infinity :) Hell Company Of Heroes does too :)

That wouldnt be very feminine now would it....

Anyway Im not an admirer of violence.
Didn't you call for the execution of Ireland's financial traitors, reckless business men and similar on a thread last night?

Anyway, video games are harmless fun, in the main. No stranger than a grown man or woman hitting a little ball around a golf course, anyway. Hobbies are hobbies, and we're lucky with many video games in that some can be informative or thought provoking. There's nothing wrong with just doing things for fun too, of course ;-)

As an aside, the Metal Gear Solid games always had a pretty strong anti-imperial message in them. And then there's stuff like this; Iranian video game rescues nuke scientist - Technology & science - Games - msnbc.com , an Iranian game about rescuing captured nuclear scientists from the US and Israel. Then there's stuff like [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaelic_Games:_Hurling"]Gaelic Games: Hurling - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Gaelic_Games_Hurling.png" class="image"><img alt="Gaelic Games Hurling.png" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/e/e4/Gaelic_Games_Hurling.png/252px-Gaelic_Games_Hurling.png"@@AMEPARAM@@en/thumb/e/e4/Gaelic_Games_Hurling.png/252px-Gaelic_Games_Hurling.png[/ame] , which surely promotes Irishy things you might like, Seven. Really, video games are just a medium. The format is full of everything from amazing dramas, good comedy and gory shooters. No different than the film industry, really.

Im not a pacifist but that doesnt mean that each human isnt unique and irreplacable...And also that they can change...Taking human life is not something to be taken lightly at all...And thats the problem...These games condition people to do just that.

I do like the Real Time battles in Total War, as well as the world domination. I just don't see the ai being very challenging, the gunshot experience though in Napoleon TW is sublime.
