The West should not try to stop the coup.

The military should be allowed return Turkey to a pro western and most importantly secular course.

Wow - you could be looking at civil war. The army were always a bulwark of secularism though Erdogan had purged them dramatically in recent years. Whichever side loses will not take defeat lying down, unless the plotters are utterly crushed. Either way it's goodbye to the world's only alleged 'Islamic democracy'.

Good news - lets hope casualties are low and Turkey turns back to being a secularist society.

If there is a proper change this also signals the beginning of the end for the Jihad in Syria as well. With no support base they are completely fúcked.

Wonder did the Russians have a hand in this? One good turn deserves another.

How long before Erdogan gets military help from his matey countries.

This could be all over in ten minutes.

I read that Erdogan has removed any sane and secular higher ranked officers from the military in recent years.

Early days yet, but best of luck to them, if it is the remnants of the secular military, attempting to halt the plans of that evil nutjob, in his attempt to establish an islamic caliphate.

The Erdogan regime used tear gas against the gay pride March. His wife has praised the Ottoman harem. The regime has brutalised the Kurds.

Erdogan is on holiday
Good timing
Maybe the bridge closures are about stopping his return as happened with the Tsars removal when the army closed the railways

Wishful thinking, Erdogan has eliminated all military opposition, the coup will fail but long term, once the economy slows, Attaturk will triumph.
