I'm surprised nobody has picked up on this.
All hell broke loose on liveline on Friday last over the sudden withdrawal of the Court Support Services.
This voluntary organization, there are only 13 of them [all Female],
provide a friendly face and a helping hand to the victims of crime who have to attend court to give evidence etc as a result of crimes suffered by them personally or by loved ones.
They liaise by phone with these people, meet them, show them the ropes, explain what to expect and generally provide a human lifeline for people who find them in these intimidating surroundings through no fault of their own.
The get no pay, only 35 euro per day toward tea for clients and the odd taxi fare.
Those wonderful people in the Dept of Justice decided that they would get in on the act and set up a bit of an "establishment" around this little band of 13 women.
Before that bit of empire building could take place however they decided to
disband the whole service "temporarily" just before the new law term was about to resume.
They ordered these little ladies to hand back their phones and security passes by 4 pm on Friday last.
Is there one decent journalist in this accursed country with the interest or balls to find out what little Hitler is behind this, and why?

Very sad to hear. The system only realised relatively recently that victims meeting their attackers in the various buildings might not be the best way to go about things. The service was there to put people at ease and 'direct' them around the court layout etc.

Paddy O'Gorman covered the service on one of his RTE Radio broadcasts a year or two back.

It can't have been that costly.

Any comment from little Dermo?

I'm sure he wouldn't be into this touchy feely stuff. Him being a man of steel, a leader in waiting as such.

Bless Google.

Here you go.

Ronan Kelly and Paddy O'Gorman

First Broadcast: June 19th. - 2006

Noelle Fitzsimons sits in Tallaght District Court every day the court sits. She's a volunteer with Victim Support and works with the Court Support Services.

Her job is to mind victims who are there to testify against accused or to attend the trial of someone who has done them wrong.

In this programme, Ronan Kelly spends time with Noelle and finds out something of what makes such a woman do such remarkable work.

38 Minutes 58 Seconds

There is no decent journalist to look into those things, They would rather talk about Kenny lite or give soft interviews to the likes of O Dea, Similar incidents are happening in other Depts. especially Health, Its a disgrace they are all in the pockets of the establishment, We saw that in Galway, only what happened, we would be none the wiser the way our leaders are behaving.

Does anybody know what happened here. I've scoured the papers but may have missed something.
Was the order suspended?
Phoned the Dept of Justice today and was given the runaround but no answer.
