Lot of wishful thinking here..

Taoiseach Brian Cowen is to launch a five-year overseas investment plan later today aimed at creating up to 300,000 jobs.

The Government said this is the first integrated strategy that will promote overseas investment, foreign trade and tourism.

The plan aims to boost exports by a third and will involve the establishment of a Foreign Trade Council bringing together all relevant agencies to help implement it.
In a statement last night, the Government said the strategy could create over 150,000 direct jobs in manufacturing, tourism and internationally trading services.

It said the plan could create another 150,000 jobs in spin-off positions, as well as increasing the number of overseas visitors to Ireland to 8m.

There'll be a lot of people with nothing to do then in the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Innovation. 150,000 jobs just like that as if they were misplaced behind the sofa...

No idea what he is on about. A super quango is all I can see. The thought of Cowen creating anything is farcical, bar a job as one of a team of gag writers for Jay Leno.

Cowan and O'Keeffe are amazing men. In two weeks they are able to project 300,000 jobs. They must be using the computers Batt bought for the schools!!

Pity they didn't lend them to Lenny. In two years he hasn't been able to figure out how much the banks will cost.

Can we now expect a phantom wave of immigration to fill all these imaginary jobs while there is a steady wave of real emigration for those who cannot find any real jobs--more of the turning a corner ************************************************ that is so regularly spouted by Lenny

Would be foolish not to. 300,000 jobs will have us well on the way to turning the corner.

If every job creates 100K of taxes it might pay for Anglo..

More on this:

Taoiseach Brian Cowen will launch a major new integrated plan for trade, tourism and investment in Dublin today that is aimed at generating up to 300,000 jobs.

The Trading and Investing in a Smart Economy strategy is also intended to boost Irish exports by one third.

It aims to create over 150,000 new jobs in manufacturing, tourism and internationally trading services directly, with another 150,000 generated through spin-offs.

The five-year plan hopes to increase the number of overseas visitors to the country to eight million and attract an extra 780 foreign investment projects through IDA Ireland.

A statement from the Department of the Taoiseach said the council will “devise new common ‘brand Ireland’ initiatives and exploit marketing platforms such as St Patrick’s Day and trade missions” .

Why not aim for 1,000,000 jobs while you are at it? Why stop at 300,000!

What a bastard leaving 200,000 on the dole!

We need those 200,00 to emigrate so they can boost the tourism figures when they return to see their friends and families..
