Following on from his ludicrous attempts to lobby for increased alcohol limits for rural dwellers Michael Heal-Rae is to be the subject of a German TV, fly on the wall, documentary .
Healy-Rae garnered local notoriety for his populist, increased drinking limit stance. It now appears he has made it to the international stage. The blurb states it will focus on his 'passion'. Do posters believe this documentary will portray Ireland in a positive light to our EU neighbours?

Apologies that should read Danny, if a mod could change it.

I assume that's a rhetorical question.

The Healy-Raes and the entire horrible mob who elect them are proof positive that some parts of Ireland are so backward that they shouldn't be allowed the responsibility of a vote.

Why should it show Ireland in a positive light? It's about a typical Irish politician.

Anyway the Germans meet our venal, self-serving, cap-doffing, 'yes-yer honour' representatives regularly?

We need to stop this.

Any way we can. If they think thats the calibre of politician we elect we are done for.

Hate to agree with such sweeping generalisations, but I can't argue against it in this case.

Federal Ireland now.

Ironically, Kerry could probably stay afloat on Tourism income.

But they would need to build an airport petunia

The German broadcaster was on Miriam O'Callaghan (stop sniggering at the back) this morning -she's filling in for John Murray's slot.

The German lad said, that having sopken to locals, he could actually see the reasons why the locals would welcome this drink-drive permit idea.

He would definitely have been a candidate for sterilization had he been around during the National Socialist era.

This is going to be embarrassing.

There is no way a documentary about Healy-Rae will come across as positive.

I dread to think of the reaction when the Germans see what sort of lunatics the Irish vote for.

He was very complimentary about the locals; he pointed out that he filmed all night in a local pub and that the atmosphere was very friendly - although nobody would take him to look at their house, and see just how isolated the people actually are. He described them as shy.

Hold on now. I am a Eurotron but it is pretty pathetic to see you lot worried and anxious about what the Germans will make of the bit of local color democracy inevitably throws up from time to time. The drink driving laws, even if they are correct, have made it difficult for many in the country whose only highlight in a week was an uninhibited drink loosened natter in the pub. For a lot of rule obsessed Germans a local event in their lives is someone not parking in their allotted apartment parking space or worse not parking straight. If the depiction of Healy Raes gives them a bit of excitement let them on (as they say). I'm not going to worry about it.
