Now David Begg General Secretary of Irish Congress of Trade Unions is known for his colorful language with a belligerent bite. On the Prime Time Budget Special 2013 (35:00) last night he used the battle of the Somme as an analogy for the current fiscal struggle in Ireland where the Germans won't get their boot off our neck in terms of debt and that's the core problem.

David again cuts the analyses short and identifies a non present foreign target to roll out his war stories and visions of total annihilation.

Didn't the trade unions play their part in destroying the country? Didn't FF buy them off and help them to expand the public sector debt to the point where it is today? Or is it really only a foreign power that controls the destiny of this state to its demise?

It's time for David Begg to grow up and take responsibility for his own actions and the current situation. The Croke Park Agreement needs to be looked at again, the public sector bill is still unsustainable even after the new budget. Spending €14 billion more than one makes in revenue is the real problem David and the unions have to accept that this can't go on.

The beards would not like to see the mother ship have to leave government and leave the country to the nasty FG hobbits.

I do believe one day we'll have honest political debates in this country, one day.

Sh**, I think I'm a SIPTU member.
No offence but if you're serious and you actually don't know, then you deserve to ridden hard by your parasitic union leaders...

I hope not knowing isn't typical but suspect it probably is...

Is that salary really correct for Jack?
Five times the salary of the Spanish PM and 75% more than Enda Kenny.

I knew he was well paid, but this borders on the ridiculous. Who sanctions this, he gets more than a highly qualified medical consultant. What an absolute joke. High time for a worker's revolt against all these Marie Antoinette types (though I'm probably still dreaming..)

Well said sir, and what you express is a view shared by a great many people. That those in power at any level cannot see that is proof of how we operate as a two tier society, a situaiton created by FF and locked in place by binding agreemetns and blackmail of the national interest. Croke Park is the insulation between those two tiers.

But I disagree that Begg has to cop on. He has to resign. That such a thing is not even a remote prospect further illustrates the division between those who pay for the crises and those who induced it. Everything Begg says has zero credability as it is all prattle aimed at avoiding the bleedin obvious, and the part he and his cronies played in creating the mess we are in.

Damn right...

The unions are simply another vested interest gorging from the trough and if they were honest with themselves and the rest of us they'd admit it.

But they're not honest. They're greedy parasites.

And they're every bit as dodgy and deluded as the eFFing traitors...

W*nkers...
