Just when you think Brexit can't get madder - David Davis latest border solution is a 10 mile wide, 300 mile long 'buffer zone' where all EU/Irish rules and regulations would apply. This 'buffer zone' would cover the entire area of the cities of Derry and Newry.

A nice gift to the Republic of Ireland coming up to our 100 year birthday.

Here's my very professional mock up showing the size of the "Buffer zone"

FFS if this is real the EU may as well pack up and go home.

Just like the DMZ doesn't solve the border issue on the Korean peninsula no feckin' 'buffer zone' is going to solve the NI border issue...

They have completely lost the plot in Britain...

So does that mean Carlingford Lough and Lough Foyle are to be handed back in their entirety? Mussel fishing is economic activity and presumably will be subject to EU rules so? The border is not just a land border but a maritime border too however I wouldn't expect the picture editor or many of the The Sun's readers to understand that.

There'll be very little left of Fermanagh for Arlene to mind given that it is surrounded on all 3 sides by the Republic.

I cant see the EU being happy about this at all. All it means is the border issue becomes the "10 miles from the border" issue.

I am oddly reminded of the old British custom of bundling, whereby an affianced couple were allowed to share a bed as long as they put the bolster down the middle between them. petunia

It looks like a sneaky repartition. The wet dream of one silly Tory.

Dubbed a ‘special economic zone’, it will be for local traders such as dairy farmers – who make up 90 per cent of the cross border traffic – and share the same trade rules as south of the border.

The two plans will together eradicate the need for any border check points, which is a major EU demand.
Uh. Uh. But....it doesn't remove the need for border controls. What's stopping the migrant hoard of British welfare scroungers descending on Belfast via ferry then sneaking into the DMZ from the UK side and then into Ireland? Or smuggling in knock off Parma ham and champagne? There still needs to be a control stopping Ireland being overrun.

Lets make the Border ten miles wide is a very interesting solution, but it doesnt go far enough.

Maybe make the whole of Ireland the Border. The Border between Brexit and sanity.

I wonder what the DUP think of this.

They are in charge of Brexit now. As you all know.

The PSNI have done there bit to keep the Persian Hordes from sneaking in to Great Britain from the Republic. They're hiring Leonidas and his Spartans...
