Some good News ,David Hall and New Beginning.

Listening to the Mooney show on RTE yesterday,he had a guest on by the name of David Hall who along with several other solicitors and barristers have begun to offer their services free of charge to people who are turning up in the courts for house reposession hearings without representation, they have set up a website and gave out contact details on the show.He seemed very genuine and showed a lot of concern for the trauma these people are going through,i must say given the hammering for their greed that a lot of the legal profession are taking,i salute him for this initiative and hope its a sign of a more caring Ireland.Sorry i dont have a link for this.

The link to their website: New Beginning

Great initiative. They are going to take some test cases as well in order to try and force the banks to take some of the hit from failed mortgages and not have all of the debt follow the borrowers.

Interesting way for a new political party to tap into discontent to build up support quickly.

I sincerely hope they haven't let the grass grow under their feet although maybe they've been doing a their work in the background for the past couple of years and just need to put the wheels in motion now.

They are coming from a stand of being initially set up to help people in distress and gave of their time free of charge so at least their heart is in the right place so far as I am concerned.

New Beggings

You have to be kidding me. Are we both talking about 'New Beggings' and the odious David Hall?

As for it morphing into a political party. This is all this country needs.

I should have guessed though - offering 'hope' and free stuff to people, and relieving them of the burden of personal responsibility and thinking for themselves... A perfect formula for a new political party.

Do people know much about the man, David Hall, behind this 'New Beggings' party?

Here are some of his interests:

A. Owner of 'Lifeline Ambulance Service' - contractor to the HSE (the year's accounts I looked at, they had 7 million turnover with 10 employees). Obviously, he's not so much on the pig's back with that venture, these days, as the HSE reduces reliance on private ambulance services to save costs....

B. Directorships:
The Golden Horseshoe Limited
Fitzwilliam Card Club Limited
Fitzwilliam Casino Limited

New Beginning Concepts Limited
Gandon Hall Management Company Limited

Founder
Make A Wish Foundation Of Ireland ('free gaff, please...')
September 1992 – 2001

Note his involvement in gambling and casinos in tandem with his 'philanthropic' ventures. (Hey, out of interest, do you know that many hedge funds detect corporate fraud by looking for a high degree of philanthropic involvement? - Human nature, see.).

Here's some more insight.

Cover story: Casinos - Dicing with McDowell - Business & Finance

"We have a vast membership across our clubs," says David Hall, the chairman of the Gaming and Leisure Association. "There are a number of judges who are members, a number of barristers including senior counsels, well-known business people, well-known celebrities and we also cater for everyone from taxi drivers to housewives too. There are also TDs and senators with membership of our clubs, including some from the Government parties. From a confidentiality perspective, it wouldn't be appropriate to comment on who they are but let's just say that the membership includes some very senior politicians."

Hall's own curriculum vitae hardly reads like that of Tony Soprano. He agreed to become the independent chairman of the group because he has a keen interest in poker but his day job is as managing director of Lifeline Ambulance. He also chairs the Beaumont Transplant Foundation and the Marie Keating Foundation.

Nevertheless, Hall and the Gaming and Leisure Association have not succeeded in gaining an audience with the Minister about their businesses' threatened imminent demise. A meeting with department officials and a curt statement that the Minister is exploring "a scheme of court orders to close down places operating as casinos" must suffice.

"It is very difficult to garner support when a minister for justice has let a roar out of him and mentioned a number of dangerous words such as money-laundering but yet has shown no evidence of it," says Hall. "It would be interesting to see him mention this outside the privilege of the Dáil. It is an easy thing to do in the chamber to make reference to certain words that are unproven. This is a democracy and that means there should be some room for consultation."
Here are the accounts for his casinos:

Golden Horseshoe Limited 2010
Lifeline Ambulances 2010

- Just another gombeen 'risk taker' shouting 'where's my NAMA'??

- Just another gombeen who thinks that their charity work is a form of anti-as$hole insurance??

- Just another gombeen ambulance chaser??

But the above is only the start. There is so much more to wonder about, the more you look into this character and his activities. eg. How he takes 250 fee for each 'free' consultation to householders in desperate straits (that you mention in your post)... and more... His agenda essentially seems to be to bring in debt write-offs without bankruptcy or insolvency, to keep a certain strata of the middle classes in their trophy homes, for a nice fee. But I wonder. While the above is odious enough, I have a feeling it goes further. There is an odd feeling given off from this character.

But just what this country needs...

I've never been impressed by New Beginnings. Rather than a genuine private legal aid-style initiative, it always seemed to me like an activist group with a highly politicised anti-austeridee agenda. All this garbage about fairness on the part of "concerned citizens". TBH it's always had a kind if New FF feel about it.

So I'm not in the least bit surprised to read mealy mouthed rhetorical comments like these from the Examiner report linked above:

The New Beginning group is laying the foundations to become a fully-fledged political party after its co-founder last night declared: “A truly national political movement born free from failed politics can deliver real change.”
And

In his speech last night, Mr Martin said austerity was now “self-destroying”. “Unless we take effective action, soon close to one million citizens will be trapped and imprisoned in household debt,” he told the last session of the 2013 MacGill Summer School.

“In order to recover as a nation, we need a renewal, a sense of real hope. Without hope our future becomes hopeless and the despair which is already shattering families will spiral into even greater pain and suffering.

“Will we accept the basic right of the people of Ireland to the ownership of Ireland? Will we resolve to pursue the happiness and prosperity of the whole nation? Will we cherish all of our children equally?”

Demanding a new vision for the country he said: “The time has come for this generation to stand up and fight for what is right. Finding out what caused the catastrophic economic collapse is important but the more urgent priority is to get Ireland working again.

“Without the essential trigger of hope, Ireland will not recover. On our own we are nothing but together we are capable of greatness,” he said.

I mean in all seriousness. Is this man exonerating many in those "million" "trapped" citizens who simultaneously voted for the Ahern administrations and went in over their heads on property deals? Sounds like he's happy to plamas them, and make everyone else pick up their tab.

Yeah very strong whiff of Bertieology off this chancer, and that other chancer Ben Gilroy of DDI.

If they do set up parties and win seats, they'll be rushing to prop up FF, before eventually merging back into the mothership.

Shades of the mass movement of "Crouching FFailure, Hidden Envelope" types into the Cabbages post-2002 to get them all lined up to support De Party after the next election.

Sounds a very likely modus operandi to me.

@namawinelake That would be the same David Hall that campaigned for Brian Lenihan and was one of Bertie Ahern's most ardent supporters....

Given the level of stalking exhibited in your post there's an odd feeling given off from you too.
