Trump Dublin: US president buys Liberty Hall to build 5-star hotel

LIBERTY HALL HAS BEEN SOLD.

The Union had been looking to redevelop the building but deemed the costs to be prohibitive. They have decided instead to sell the building to a company associated with President Trump. The new venture will be known as Trump Tower Dublin. The twitter account of Trump broke the news over night.

SIPTU have not commented on the news yet however, sources with knowledge of the matter say that SIPTU are relieved the deal is done and they can relocate in the city centre without the massive costs of the refurb of the old building.

In recent years, Siptu has wanted to demolish the tower block and rebuild a new Liberty Hall but it is understood the cost of this was seen as being prohibitive and the union has instead decided to sell Liberty Hall and relocate. A union source said the sales process has been ongoing in secret since before the US election last November and was completed in recent weeks.
From a personal point of view I am happy that Liberty Hall is not goind to be demolished. It is a part of our history, our heritage.

Has Trump done something that will benefit us, for once?

See, this is too much. Better to be subtle and fool us in existing threads. I'm afraid this thread means that is much more unlikely to happen.

Liberty Hall doesn't look so bad at that height. All the great views you'd have from all those floors. Many a true word in jest etc ..

Rumour is it that the hotel casino will be named the 'James Connolly casino' and that the exclusive celeb and invite only champagne bar will be called 'The Lockout'!

We need many many more Liberty Halls to house the homeless and reduce house prices by increasing supply.

I have examined the application in Dublin City Council offices.

The biggest problem will be getting the necessary legislation passed in Dail Eireann to allow the US Secret Service install a small armoury in the proposed buildings basement to store their weapons and ammunition for protecting the US president should he decide to stay there.

As matters stand such facilities are exempted planning development only for Gardai or Irish military personnel.

I do not see it as a major obstacle to this entirely welcome and wonderful addition to Dublins skyline and social/cultural life.
