Brian Dobson just introduced the top item on the news with a reference to 'Ireland Incorporated'. Ciaran Cuffe from the Greens (the Greens, ffs!) said it yesterday on Matt Cooper's show, prompting Cooper to remark that it was the first time he'd ever heard a Green using the term.

AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! I want to hurt the cretins who repeat this sh1te mindlessly. When did we stop being a nation and start being a business? A month or two ago it was all 'An Bord Snip' this and 'An Bord Snip' that. Now it's this. Is there any way I might be allowed to encourage extreme violence against anyone heard using such terms, or is it outside the terms and conditions of use of the site?....

Em, all our main political parties and assorted hangers on in the media can't think outside of the neoliberal box, leading to a monumental fúck up some call ''the Irish economy''. In the neoliberal box you don't have citizens but consumers. So, really it shouldn't be much of a surprise they don't see a nation but a 'corporation'. This has been going on for years, where have you been?

Good post, a chara, it was all part of a move to stop us being thinking, participating citizens and turn us into cretinous "consumers," who never thought about anything except how to stuff our fat faces and order more decking for our back gardens.

Personally I'm not a fan of this whole "Picture/Portrait/Cowen" thing. Can we please exercise some self control before we go gating things?

Also, what's wrong with running the country like a business?

It's describing the country as a business I have a problem with. But it's more than that, it's the meaninglessness of the term that grates me most...

Shouldve been listening to socialists all along , theres none of them as deluded and wrong as our spoofing 'capitalists'
It was eggs and baskets got us into this mess, not the free market. Human error, nothing more.

TA, has it taken a recession for you to realise that large parts of Ireland have been inhabited by pretentious tossers who do no not know their ass from their elbow. It's Ross O'Carroll - Kelly culture, i.e. spout out a load of big words and hope that noone notices it was a pile of meaningless bollox.

No, I knew, it just bothers me when it's the State broadcaster and a government politician at it too...
