Donald Trump could still theoretically not be president because of

It’s still theoretically possible for Donald Trump not to become president. But the near-impossibility all depends on the electoral college and the strange US system.

Donald Trump might have won the election by getting more of the votes in the electoral college than Hillary Clinton did. But strictly and legally, it’s not the election that just happened that matters: it’s the one where the members of the electoral college go and represent their voters and pick their candidate.

That’s due to happen on 12 December, at meetings in each state where all Republican or Democrat representatives – depending on how each state voted – will cast their vote. And it will almost certainly go one way, with most of the electors casting their ballots for Donald Trump and making him President.

But that could, theoretically, not happen. Members of the electoral college could potentially change their mind – becoming what is known as a “faithless elector” – and so cast their ballot for somebody else, or not at all.

The phenomenon of the faithless voter is giving people hope that perhaps Donald Trump won’t actually become the President of the US.
Imagine if this happened?

Highly doubtful .. but who knows. Thought I would post it anyway for the P.IEers to ponder on :D

I would assume if this were to happen it would be another election??

Has it ever happened before?

Nope.

Not since 2007 have a party had the Senate and Congress with their man in the White House.

Even in this post-Trump world, I can say with confidence that there isn't the remotest chance this could happen.

If some outrageous scandal breaks between now and then - its just about possible. Would have to be massive.

Feck this now.

Let him be sworn in, let him be Prez, let him deal with snarling staffers and bureaucratic upstarts sneering at him, telling how things are done. Throw reams of papers in front of him with notes of the dire consequences of signing incorrectly without reading them all comprehensively, send him abroad ten times in as many days, let Melania gripe about provincial DC, keep him in the dark, but make sure he has to know where the light switch is.

Sure he is a seasoned politician who knows the ropes isn't he? And he is used to being told what to do aswell. :p
