I saw this on the twitters yesterday, on the face of it democrats have no problems with countries like Saudi which make Russia look like Sweden so is there an historical bitterness in the left wing of the democrats because Russia ruined the whole socialist ideal?

Interesting comments from former U.S. diplomat James Jatras on why progressives in America hate Russia.

I do recall that Reagan was a Republican and he called Russia "the evil empire".

And that was before Putin got his IT guys to break into and steal things from the DNC and other organisations and US businesses.

Now, out of spite, he got his Bears to break into and steal information from the international sports facility which found that the Russian Olympics teams over several games had been taking drugs to enhance their performances. Now many were banned from participating in the Rio Olympics, and all of the Russian team was banned from the Paralympics.

Are you a GOP guy and you think Putin is great? Step up your computer security before you speak out.

true but its reasonable to infer that Republicans would have hated the USSR out of principal, is it reasonable to infer that the left wing of the democrats didnt viscerally hate the USSR in principal but more in the way they went about it? given that the Republicans can view themselves as having broken communism (hugely simplistic) does that put the Republicans in the position to be more reasoanble towards Russia today?
Without blinkers on I'd if you are into breaking regressive countries you should be focusing on Saudi , Pakistan etc. Russia should be number 19 or 20 on the list.

Both Russia and the US now operate along the lines of state-sponsored capitalism. Very little difference between them.

No, if a country broke into your computer network(s) at a critical time, it should be the focus, not the other countries. I understand Uncle Same may indict the Russian hackers - not that it will get far.

Any chance you might rename the thread "Republicans love Putin more than Democrats"? Stands to reason if Trump is their leader.

The Dems loved Russia when it was looking for a "Russian reset" and when Obama told Medvedev - caught on camera - that he would have more flexibility after the 2012 election.

One thing that has struck me is just how crap they are.

A wise man on here said, stop all this nonsense about Putin being a chess grandmaster. There is no evidence he knows from checkers.

He did judoku. You either land the other guy on his ass first off, or you end up rolling round the floor petunia

I'm amused by the Putinbot spin that anyone who criticises him is a Russophobe. L'etat, c'est moi.

You might as well say if you express disdain for the Kray Brothers, you hate cockneys, right? petunia

Russia is a poor, backwards, authoritarian dictatorship. Those are facts, not judgements.

Obama's Russia ambassador Michael McFaul, who was very anti Trump, warning against hysteria over Russia.

Diplomats warn of Russia hysteria | TheHill
Of course he will be angry
Liberal media destroyed everything by their russophobic hysteria what he did to grow pro-US opposition in Russia
Everything what Russian state propaganda has to do is to translate everything from liberal media what relates to Russia and Trump to make Russian people feel that they live in last outpost of freedom
