I tought a TD's salary was somewhere in the region of €75,000?
Plus unreceipted expenses??
Plus BIK?
€100,000 is still quite a high salary considering the work that they do. I mean really, it is not rocket science or anything. You dont need a qualification or training, just a neck like a giraffe and an aversion to direct speak.
Fair play to Doherty, he's walking the walk and showing real leadership.
The rest of the fluffers in dail eireann would do well to learn a trick or two off this man.
People respect people whose actions speak louder than words.
Time for other TDs to stop relying on PR releases and actually DO something.
Or suffer at the polls.

By just talking about something we all know? Takes a lot more than hot air about cutting TD's salaries to show real leadership IMO

€100,000 with no expenses would get my thumbs up.

Even then reluctantly.

Plus expenses, one presumes? Is he advocating they are vouched?
They should be receipted. And from companies currently in existence preferably.
Maybe allow a 3% of total expenses claimed to be un-receipted.

Yes, that's part of SF's budget policy too. Vouched expenses and reduction of what can be claimed as expenses.
Fair play to him so. I don't think that in any way unreasonable.

Capping all 166 TD's salaries to €100k is a red herring and of no financial significance
Capping the salaries of all public servants to €100k will save a serious amount of money

It's not a red herring.
It's about leading by example.

It's about not having people hold you in contempt when you bang on about 'everybody partied' but now we must all make sacrifices.
To see our politicians raking it in, their expenses alone being a healthy wage amount for ordinary people, and then deign to tell us about sacrifices is sickening.

With a reduced salary, at least some of the hypocrisy fades.

capping td's salaries would have almost no financial significance and is therefore a red herring and a populist vote gathering exercise
(not that it shouldnt be done)
but capping all ps salaries would have a big impact and save serious amounts of money
then the party would really be over
