Did you hear the one about the Kerryman who wanted drink driving permits?

Danny Healy Rae and fellow councillors have voted by 5 to 3 backing a motion calling for drinkers to be allowed to have a few pints, before driving home on little-used roads.

What do you think?
Are you surprised? These people are the "missing link", for God's sake...

Kerry County Council approves rural drink-driving permit motion

Just heard this on Newstalk, and sometimes the calibre of our politicians make you cringe to be from the county. Danny Healy-Rae proposed that rural drinkers should be allowed permits to drink-drive due to the absence of rural transport. The motion was passed 5-3, with the remaining 19 councillors either abstaining or absent.

I'm surprised that the Healy-Rae's haven't set up a rural bus scheme to coin all the cash they seem to think there is to be made from frustrated drinkers.

It exactly the type of bullsh1t I would expect from those pig-ignorant muckers.
Luckily, this is just noise. It'll go nowhere.

Nothing wrong with 2/3 pints and then drive nice and easy on a country road. It was not so long ago regarded as the height of responsibility if one did this - and not drive with a skinful.

Healy-Rae's latest brainfart. Someone should bring him on a visit someday to the N.R.H. in Dun Laoighre. With all the progress we as a society have made to making drink driving socially acceptable, Healy-Rae comes out with this. Parish pump gombeenism at its worst.

Nothing wrong at all, apart from being against the law.

Par for the course. The Healy-Raes are very clever people and have done very well supplying plant hire equipment to Kerry Co Co. 5,000,000 euros worth of business since 1999. But they have done the state some service as county councillors on Kerry Co Co.
