Does this Gov. need a Smack? Now Heroin addicts will be able shoot up legally & Gardai can do nothing!

This must be one of the daftest projects ever

The Cabinet is now set to bring in Legislation to allow out of their skulls addicts to bring their illegal drugs to centres where they will be supervised while engaging in highly illegal activities

- in effect it is the legalisation of Heroin

What message does this to send out to young kids that Heroin is not only illegal but highly dangerous to get hooked on?

Surely if anything is sanitises the taking of this vile substance that has ruined the lives so many people both here and abroad?

The Drug Pushers must be laughing tonight!

No
It sounds daft, but it's about less aggro on the street, and clean needles so they don't infect the rest of us with whatever.

They should be sent to cure on one of our many deserted islands off de wesht coasht.

A tent, a bucket and a fishing line, and see you in a month. :?

I'm surprised that you would take such a right wing view of this Catalpast.

Kids can already witness open drug dealing and consumption on many Dublin streets.

This may at least remove it from public places.

That's the thing..... it simply won't stop them from shooting up in public.... They'll continue to use in their usual spots..

No it makes sense, it's not a solution to the drug problem but a good move for those abusing drugs and the communities they live.

This is a worse option than them wandering the streets 'out of their skulls'?

in effect it is the legalisation of Heroin
Hardly! Would that be such a bad thing though, has illegality worked?

Surely if anything is sanitises the taking of this vile substance that has ruined the lives so many people both here and abroad?
No, it takes people who are addicted to a substance off the street and allows them take the drug in a safe environment....addicts will take heroin in their homes, on the streets, in their cars or whatever, it's sensible to try and get a control on the situation by this move.

The Drug Pushers must be laughing tonight!
This changes nothing for their industry.

We are far too accommodating of junkies, for a long time in the inner city when junkies were seen as filth by all but especially the young the levels of addiction plummeted.

Now because it is no longer held in the distain it was, more are not as turned off by it which just leads to more drug addicts in the future.

Its not Right Wing at all

- Right Wing would and have pressed for the legalisation of Drugs

- the Freedom of the Individual an all

v's the Rights of Society

- but as Mrs Thatcher said:

There's no such thing as Society...:|

It's unlikely to stop all of those who inject in public from doing so but it may go to some way to reducing the number, what's the problem with trying it?

Why not? In these centres it's w
warm and dry and they'll get clean needles, medical supervision and probably a cup of tea. Also, they won't be bothered by the cops.

they have something simalar in germany in the bar i worked in in mulheim a few doors down was a cafe/drop in center for addicts .one of our pissheads went in there one day for a coffee and told me they lock the doors take out their works and shoot up.it keeps them off the streets to do something their going to do anyway and its a lot preferable to the spaced out zombies wandering around the parnell st henry st area where i live and it seemed to work abroad i never had any trouble with the german users cant say the same about the irish ones

So they shoot up here and then wander off stoned out of their tiny little minds to flop down somewhere in public view...

How the Hell does that solve anything

- other than encourage people to shoot up on Drugs?

Ah shure its great Jimmy - you never tried it before- no bother at all - just come along with me to the centre and get nice clean needles

- sure its brilliant alltogether

- the Cops?

Naw - sure now they cant touch ya - just tell them where your heading...

Will this activity be insured? What are the consequences and who will accept responsibility if something goes belly up or overdoses.

Will the addict/s sue the state in that scenario.

These 'crack' salons will not turn out well.

Our politicians are just plain stupid, and are happy to prove it to us day in and day out.

Any bright ideas for encouraging the further use of narcotics should be pursued in the politicians homes or addicts assisted in their homes by these tulip politicians - the politicians should administer the drugs themselves, if they are so eager to 'help'.

Of course they won't - we can expect another quango being set up for that purpose.
