The Taoiseach has said the by-election in the Donegal South West constituency will be held in 2011, but there is no specific date at this time.

Brian Cowen said there were no criteria within the current legislation to hold the by-election within a specific time frame.

The seat has been vacant for more than a year, since Pat the Cope Gallagher was elected to the European Parliament.

Speaking to Ocean FM, Brian Cowen said the by-election would happen in due course

Cowen's undertaking to work on his communication skills didn't last for long, did it?

Will he have secured a MEP pension by then?

That makes a complete joke of parliamentary democracy, so FF will probably do it

He has one from the time he came back before to take back the seat that FF lost the last time he went to Europe.
Well, I for one will canvass against him.

He has ruled out running in the by-election but says he may return to run in a future General Election. Hes probably struggling to live on an MEPs salary so he needs the extra 20K or so to make ends meat. F###ing parasite, hed probably get elected too.

Pimetime tonight was a bit of a washout. John(paul gogarty's friend) Curran saying the Government were too busy to have by-elections but not too busy to have had 3 months holidays.

I would be thinking Brian o Donnell isn't best pleased, possible FF breakaway faction?
O'Domhnaill will run as an independent if he doesn't get on the ticket in a bye-election or indeed a general election. Ref: His brother in local elections.
