Looks to be a bit of a split for the Labour vote in Dublin with Labour running a candidate and Higgins' daughter apparently running as an independent. Not sure how Herman Kelly will do though. Seems that he is contesting as an independent. Have the PBP/Socialists/etc nominated their candidates yet?

Yep Alice Mary Higgins is standing.

Socialist Party/Solidarity - Their councillor Michael O'Brien was to be the candidate but it's now Rita Harrold who's also a candidate for the locals in Cabra-Glasnevin - she's the main SP person behind ROSA.

Gillain Brien is the PBPA candidate.

Both candiates indicate both organisations feel they've no chance of winning. The SP are also convulsed by their current internal crisis in Ireland and elsewhere.

Phoenix reported Clare Daly TD was considering a run too...that would be a significnat move as unlike those above she'd be in with a decent chance.

Claire Daly is backing WP candidate Cllr Eilis Ryan.

after she endorsed Ryan WP!
Yep, nothing wrong with that...I'd be very surprised if the prospect of Daly standing wasn't communicated to Eilis at that time.

that article doesn't even correctly state that Daly is a member of the Independents 4 Change party
It's not a party - it has the same status as PBPA-SOL.

Here they are canvassing the Shia vote and celebrating a revolution that brought a relatively modern country back to the Middle Ages.

The pair of them would be clapped in irons the minute they got off the plane, if they arrived in Tehran dressed like that. Irony, as always, at a premium on the left.

Iran and Ireland’s common histories recalled

its a register

it is a registered political party she is not an Independent TD as claim in the article
Yes registered for Dail purposes just like PBPA-Sol but they are not parties in the way that Fianna Fail, SF or Labour are.

I would struggle to come up with a weaker candidate from them. It's bad enough for them that she is their best choice for a LEA ward for the LE's in May- but to be their candidate for the whole city and county in the EE's!!!???
Their councillor in Dublin Bay North, O'Brien was to be the candidate but he or they had a change of mind. They need their TDs in the Dail so they can't stand them and they've no-one else of significance in terms of profile. They will struggle to hold their council seats and will definitely be down one in Limerick after their councillor there had to stand down. They are at the centre of a significant crisis involving their international organisation (CWI- see below) which is heading for a major split, there are factions here too so I don't think the Euros are particulalry high on their agenda.

Spanish section of the CWI walks out

They (or the AAA as they were called) are down one in Dublin 15 since 2014- they had 3 across the area and now they have 2 and I think will only come back with one or two as a max in the area next month. Castleknock is losing two seats and I would imagine that their councilor for the ward will lose her seat here.
