Thoughts on Dublin West please. Firstly will Lenihan's Health stand up to the rigours of a campaign, even though he won't have to que for treatment like most of his constituents. Its obvious that the treatment he has recieved so far has not been as successful as his doctors had hoped for.(For the record,as someone who's family has had a brush with Cancer I wish Lenihan well in his fight). And who will the second Labour candidate be ?, Pat Nulty really rustled fethers in labour with his crititism of council junkets. Will Joan Burton want an extremely left wing and popular newbie snapping at her heels. And where the heck is Joe Higgins ? Is he being sucked into Europe and therefore ignoring his main base, ??. Although its probably the easiest of the constituencies to call it could still be v interesting.

Probably one each for FF, FG, Lab and the SP. If Lenihan doesn't run than it'll be two labour. I'd be surprised that Higgins is not on the ground if that's true.

Joe still has huge support in Dublin West , but he really has'nt been around atall. When was the last time he was on any political TV shows? I wonder will it be Nulty or Donavan as the running mate for Burton ?.Donavan is a Burton lap dog and a useless Cllr.

the battle for the second labour party candidate is between Pat Nulty(mulhuddart) and Tom Kelleher (swrods). FF are said to be looking for a female candidate with a profile in Dublin West, they do mot think any of their Dublin West councillors are dail material. Leo will be pushing one of his middle aged clrs to be his running mate. FF seat only sure if the candidate is Brain Lenihan, but last seat is up for grabs, Joe Higgings has not been seen or heard since 2009 in Dublin West

Joe and the SP are always on the ground. Plenty of public meetings including an important upcoming one on the development plans. As for the seats, its a straight Lab-FG-Sp-FF outcome.

Michael O'Donovan will not be running. It will come down to Cllrs Nulty and kelleher for the nomination and Cllr Nulty will win. The only female option FF have is Cllr Mags Murray who will not win the nomination. The most likely FF candidate (Lenihan aside) is Cllr. David McGuinness. FG will of course run Deputy Varadkar with Cllr Kiaran Dennison as a running mate.

FF have a core vote of 20% in DW who will vote FF regardless. This will make it tough for other candidates but it is entirely likely that they will lose the seat if Lenihan doesn't run.

Was wondering, is Kelleher the Cllr that had a go at Nulty for objecting to the Council junkets. And would Joan be happy with the new kid on the block snappin at her heels !. He seems really Left wing , and could'nt really see him and Vlad being partners, could see Joan havin no prob, tho ..nice ministerial pension comin up there !.

Quite possible indeed.

If so

1 FG

1 Lab

1 SP

& a battle royal for the last 1 between Labour & FG.

For me I'm giving a NO 1 to Leo and a No 2 to Kieran Dennison if he is on the ticket

- and after that a transfer to JB.

- agus Sin E!:)

If FG play the immigrant card (like they have done before out here B4) they are virtually guaranteed a 2nd seat.

Kelleher took offence at Nulty, yes. My guess is that the nomination could go either way, but that Nulty is far more energetic and deserving of the nomination. Kelleher won't win Labour a second seat...but Nulty might just do it.

SP membership must be reading politics.ie, as the SP crew were out postering tonight for some meeting.
Actually Leo's father is not from India he is from Sri Lanka, I am unsure if I would call the FG Dublin West people racist, but they have played the immigration card in the past in Dublin West. Look some people will always vote for FG or FF irrespective of who they run.
In fairness Pat McNulty got the mulhuddart vote out for himself last year, unsure if there would be the same effect in the election. Myself I would be happy with anyone except FG/FF candiadtes, even if that mean 4 looney lefties. But the reality LAB-FG-FF and LAB/FG/SP fighting for the last seat. If Brian Lenihan is not the candidate then FF will not have a seat in Dublin West

ahhh that's nonsense. In the 2009 LEs got 19.4% in Castleknock, 19.1% in Mulhuddart and 15.5% in Swords. if anything, they're lower now.

Only a personal vote from Lenihen will get them a seat here in the GE, unless there's a national recovery.

what does "play the immigrant card" mean.Fine Gael's close allies in europe are on the edge of extreme right wing and this usually means a racist agenda of some sorts !!.

Kelleher actually was quite insulting to Nulty, calling him a "Pot-hole Cllr." kelleher is a party loyalist I guess whilst Pat "Anti -lisbon" is more or what I would call real labour !!.

A bitter controversy erupted within FG in Dublin West at the time of the Locals as KD thought he was being shunted sideways and went for the jugular

- it paid off as he came home near tops - 1,649 vote while Mr Adeola was an 'also ran'!:)

This is from my post here from that torrid time:(4 June 2009)

'Kieran Dennison states the following in this weeks Blanchgazette as Civil War rocks FGs Dublin West Branch

It is alleged by other candidates that Adeola Ogunsina, FGs candidate from Nigeria, has been making promises that he can secure Passports for Immigrants within 6 months if they vote for him and FG are in Government.

This alleged ‘Passports for Votes’ Scandal has provoked the FG candidate from Ireland to let rip…

I was not informed of the meetings, and I have been finding it difficult to establish how many meetings there were, and what exactly was said.

With so many people losing their jobs, and worrying about getting work for their children, immigration is a big issue on the doorsteps...

there is increasing resentment at new arrivals who must be supported by an ever increasing Welfare System.

...Now that someone at last and finally has come out in public and admitted what the dogs in the street in Blanchardstown know I reckon I will give him my NO 1 tomorrow to try and stop Adeola taking a Council Seat.'
