Eamon Gilmore and Ivana Bacik are definitely running.

Mary and Barry a cert.

Ditto Richard Bore Barrett.

But who are FG going to run??? Their selection convention is next week - is Sean going to retire again? Will John Bailey make it a hat trick? From what I heard FG will run only two but pressure is on to run a female - if this is the case, it will be the new FG Mary Mitchell O'Connor v. longstanding FG Marie Baker.

Their selection convention for DLR is happening next week!

I would think Mary Mitchell O Connor would get the nod....

I'd heard a rumour Regan might have changed his mind and will run, but I don't know if there is any truth in it. To be honest I doubt there is. Since Barret got FA in the Reshuffle I presume it's a safe bet that he is running.

Regan would be a huge gain for the Dail. He's the only person who has impressed me in the senate.

We have a similar FG vacuum in Dublin South. DS and DL are the two most middle class constituencies in the country, approaching an election of historic anger against FF, yet FG is barely to be seen.

M M-O'C is campaigning like crazy, my Dunlaoghaire FG contacts tell me.
Barrett's branch meeting was this week and they voted to send forward his nomination to the convention. He is running ok.

Bailey may or may not run, but the anti-Bailey-ites have some dirt on his packed branches and dodgy delegates, to be used if necessary.

He really is the Dick Dastardly of politics. He would probably win if he played it straight, but he can't help himself.

It's a foregone conclusion FG will get one seat. An outside chance of 2 only if there's a FF wipeout.

Eugene Regan himself today (again) said he wasn't going to run. I got confirmation from the FG press office this afternoon.

FG's selection convention is next Tuesday.

By far the best ticket for FG would be Sean Barrett with strong support throughout the constituency and from the Shankill/Ballybrack end and the highly popular poll topper Cllr Marie Baker from the Blackrock/Monkstown end. This would give FG a strong chance of taking out either the Green or a FF seat.

That settles that then. It's a great pity because Regan would have been a great candidate and a great TD. Hopefully he'll come back in the future.

Well Dun Laoghaire is going from five seats to four, I would assume Labour leader Eamon Gilmore will top the poll here, with one FG seat here for sure, there could be 1 FF seat but Hanafin and Andrews both running may nuke a single seat between them.

Boyd-Barrett I would have thought a strong contender for Socialist Workers Party People Before Profit United Left Alliance and Gilmore's running mate Ivana Bacik would be in the running.

I don't see a second seat for FG here, perhaps for Labour, but that really depends on how many transfers Gilmore can give Bacik and whether she can stay in the race for long enough.

Barry Andrews FF
Mary Hanafin FF
Sean Barrett FG (and another FGer to be selected)
Eamon Gilmore Lab
Ivana Bacik Lab
Ciaran Cuffe Green
Richard Boyd Barrett - ULA

I don't think Bacik stands a snowball's chance - Labour made the mistake of parachuting Oisin Quinn in '07 and despite his spending a fair amount of moolah and opening a consituency office in Booterstown, he failed to make an impact.

Going for Lettie McCarthy or Carrie Smyth would have been a smarter move.

I thought Labour was awash with local councillors.
Has Bacik any local connection?
She'll have one vote anyway, I know one Trinity graduate who will be flying in just to vote for her.

Did he indicate whether he'll be returning to the Senate or whether he's retiring completely? Understandable if he goes but we'll be the poorer for it.
