The European Court of Human Rights has ordered British doctors to continue providing care to a seriously ill baby until Sunday while judges consider his case.

Connie Yates and Chris Gard, whose infant son is on life support are awaiting a final decision from Strasbourg on whether they can take Charlie to the US for experimental treatment, following a bitterly fought series of failed legal challenges in the UK.

Charlie, who was born last August has a genetic condition, inherited via the mitochondria, that causes progressive deterioration of the muscles.

Doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London said it would be more compassionate to move to a palliative care regime that would allow the baby to die. However, his parents disagree with the doctors’ assessment and want to be allowed to take Charlie to a hospital in the US where they hope he can be treated.

Misleading thread title, they were hardly going to do anything else until they made their decision.

Quack doctors offering false hope to parents for a high price. Hopefully judges will take the right decision.

The thread title is correct. The ECHR made an explicit ruling directing doctors to continue their care.

A couple who want to take their terminally ill baby son to the USA for treatment have been given a six day reprieve as the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) said that doctors must continue treating him.

They were hardly going to direct the life support be turned off before they made their decision now were they.

Unfortunately this is true, vast amounts are being raised in local communities, money that used to raised to help locally and more effectively in these local communities.

Indeed - but that doesn't make the thread title incorrect.

Are they though, quack doctors. I remember the case a couple of years ago where the parents absconded with their own child, I think they fled to Spain as there was some new treatment available and the child made a "full recovery".

I'm not up to speed with the intricacies of this particular case.

"Judges in the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) have rejected a plea from the parents of terminally-ill baby Charlie Gard to intervene in the case.

Chris Gard and Connie Yates, who are in their 30s and come from Bedfont, west London, wanted 10-month-old Charlie, who suffers from a rare genetic condition and has brain damage, to undergo a therapy trial in America.

A plague on all the houses of the establishment ScU mbags who have blocked this child's parents in their quest to do right by him.

Some scU mbag pharmaceutical company allied to those doctors in the treating hospital probably wants his parts for research.
