Just saw this tweet

I understand Mary Hanafin came last of three candidates at the FF convention in Dún Laoghaire tonight. @CormacDevlin topped poll of local members, @KateFeeneyFF second. DL is a four-seater, but convention only chooses one candidate - up to HQ to add another (v likely)

Could still get selected by party HQ
She said in the papers today that she fully expects to be added to the ticket despite coming last in the selection convention. There is democracy for ya. Why the special treatment for her?

Tough on Feeney who is more popular. Devlin has worked hard locally for years and could have held the seat in 2011 if Hanafin had moved to south county as requested.

Former Mayo GAA star Alan Dillon was selected to contest the next GE for FG last night in Mayo with Mulhern and Ring should give us a great chance of getting 3 seats in Mayo in the3 next GE

With a better spread of votes, their will be a lot less candidates in the field, so their will be alot less leakege of votes out of the Ballina EA, FG had 51% of 1st preferance in the last and only got 2 seats.

What does Alan Dillon have to offer that he's running for election, what area of expertise does he specialise in?

Did he get selected simply because he played Gaelic Football for Mayo?

Maybe they’ll take Calleary’s seat?

Ah Alan Dillon that well known political activist, the man who has a distinguished campaign record one who has bravely spoken out on many issues over the years...not! Craven opportunism by him and typical opportunism by FG - here's hoping he goes the way of John O'Leary and Graham Geraghty.

He retired after a long 16 years of inter county football with Mayo where he won 2 All Stars, iwhen he anounced he was going to put his name forward for election he spoke of his family membership and involvement in FG for many years. Don't know if O Leary's or the Gerathy's families was involved in FG before hand, every one is entitled to join a political party and put their name forward to contest a election. Onofficial numbers for the convention showed that MM got 256, MR got 254, AD got 140 and POB got 93.
It gives FG 2 definate seats and a good chance of a 3rd, it will leave Mayo with 2 FG, 1 FF and the last seat between FG, FF and SF.
