Fiona O'Malley has discoverd she represents Dun Laoghaire (and people will now be shocked to discover she is one of their TDs)
THey've gone straght for their biggest weakness...health...

One of Labours guys has sent what looks like the same leaflet twice now (Eamon is apparntly too comforted by his gaunrenteed reelection hes just not bothering)...

(by the way has no4 not been done yet?????? The PDs promised that in 2002)

and the Socialists...HAVE DISCOVERD COLOUR!!!
Gone are the days of the SWP (now the People Before Profit Allaince) just photocopying black and white leaflets...

I'd just scan them in. If they're images, just put them up on http://www.imageshack.us.

Now they can lie in colour. Maybe lie is a little harsh, maybe it's a printing error that has kept any reference to the Socialist Workers Party off Barrett's election literature, website and profile.

If I could afford the rents, I'd move to Dun Laoghaire simply to give him me last preference.

You're not implying that he's not mentioning the SWP deliberately, are you?

Not Richie, never...

Surpised to hear you attack a fellow lefty.
Whats with the bile many on the Irish Left have for the SWP, the SP says they just use campagns like the bin tax and antiwar to try to increace their membership, the more unallinged leftys say they don't get involved in the difficult stuff like anti drug campagns etc...

"People Before Profit Allaince" sugests an umbrella group of organisations..but it seems to just be the SWP :?

Ciarán Cuffe has been doing up localised printouts for each canvassing day.

They'll be specific to an estate or small area. It usually has one or two repeated things on national issues, another piece on a constituency issue and then several things on really, really localised issues. It's surprising how local they get.

Well we don't have Local Government so he has to do both.

Chara, I could start writing now and still be going on Friday if I was to list all the reasons anyone in the Irish left, from doctrinaire Stalinist to free livin' Anarchist, to social democrat, republican and Maoist can all unite around only one thing, an utter contempt and disgust for the SWP.

Since I have not the time, can I suggest the Splintered Sunrise and Cedar Lounge Revolution blogs, especially for the former which has a longer view of things.

Broadly, people's distaste boils down to two issues, practice and policy. The SWP is an infiltrationist organisation, it's representatives extremely manipulative and dishonest, working through front organisations to target people for recruitment and not averse to some of that front ortganisation's money helping in their election campaigns. They have wrecked or abandoned more campaigns than I can think of, and done it in a cynical and deliberate fashion. As some British leftist put it, 'If the SWP didn't exist, MI5 would have to create them'.

On policy, they oppose a worker's wage for elected representatives as practised by the SP and Sinn Féin, they give uncritical support to ALL acts of 'resistance' in Iraq, have dropped open support for homosexuality and abortion for fear of offending the hardcore right wing Islamics they are forging ties with in Britain and have never developed a policy position that doesn't involve the use of exclamation marks.

They are the human detritus of the left.

That's a funny one to fall out on, surely it's strictly an academic question for the SWP? ;)

Actually they confuse me greatly, they go to VERY left in their policies (free public transport and a living wage for students), but support things like Social Partnership  with Kieran Allen sugesting we just need BETTER social partnership....which made no sense, considering he wrote an entire book on how SocP was just a mechanism for keeping wages down.

Sorry, but it still rings true again and again.

I think everyone left wing activist in the world can appreciate the humour in that sketch. The SWP is slightly different in that dislike for it unites all the other factions.

You wouldn't if you haven't seen the life of Brian. And if that's the case, you really need to get a good DVD rental membership!
