The Fine Gael party leader has this evening announced the Fine Gael Deputy Spokesmen. Included amongst them is the appointment of Brian Hayes as Deputy Spokesman with responsibility for Public Expenditure and Lucinda Creighton as Deputy Spokesman for Immigration. Olivia Mitchell has been appointed Deputy Spokesman for Competition and Consumer Affairs.

The calibre of today’s appointments underlines the depth and strength of talent in the Fine Gael team and I am confident that we will win the support of the Irish people when they get the opportunity to vote for a new government.
- Enda Kenny, Fine Gael Leader

Well, that's them all on-side obviously. Evident lot of nonsense in the papers over the weekend about another heave.

Let this be a lesson to all. If you spend years running down Enda Kenny, insulting his ability and calling for his removal, eventually he'll reward you with promotion. What a strong leader he is.

That's what I was thinking. Seems everybody in FG has a spokesperson gig now.

Last throw of the dice for Kenny. He must have been in a panic and promoted the whole lot

Lucinda Creighton as Deputy Spokesman for Immigration
At last some recognition of her talent. Who is the chief spokesperson and how will she set about undermining him?

A good line-up in my view.

I especially welcome Brian Hayes and Damien English to their junior finance roles. It's good to see that even after the heave, Kenny is keeping the young blood active in the important issues.

Enda proves he is a man in command. Cowen can make no more changes from here on without the permission of Lenihan who will decide when is the best time to drop the toiseach. This has been a good week for Kenny he does not dignify stupid comments, gets on and does his job. The job now for Fine Gael is the removal of this government in the interests of our country. No better man to raise the standard the office of Toiseach.

A bit like De Bert who at one stage had a job for everyone except two who dirtied their bibs - McDaid and Ned O Keeffe. Wonder will Lucy take the job or throw it back in his face.

Going easy on your political enemies always pays off in the end. Just ask Julius Caeser. I'm sure this will put paid to all the backbiting and cause all the naysayers to fall into line.

Someday the electorate may even know who the main spokespeople are. FG, the anonymous opposition.

Looking through the names shows the dearth of talent FG atually have when you go beyond the few prominent frontbench spokespeople.

As opposed to Labour...... The soundbite opposition.
And they are at 30%+ in the polls. I don't know what FG's media strategy is, do they have one? The only time I've recently heard from Coveney, Hayes, Varadkar is when they were challenging Kenny. The Government goes off on a media holiday for 3 months and, despite the massive open goal, the opposition decide they're going to do the same.

Announcing the Deputy Spokesperson is hardly the act of a man about to be removed or will the plotters use it to their advantage?

Keep 'em close

It is good for the blue************************s that both Hayes & English will be in on Finance - both well up for the job.

Can't help thinking though that EK has these two influential TD's close to Noonan to keep them busy - they have a lot of sway within the Parliamentary Party among backbench TD's. Idle minds and all that...
