It would appear, according to the Indo article that Enda Kenny has finally lost his faith in Reilly, the man who in many ways made him king. I would opine that The many trials and tribulations of Reillys incompetence ito date have driven Kenny to the point where he will be,according to the paper " getting more involved in the department of health in 2013 " . Code for, I don't trust you to do the job on your own any more.

So is this the first little gentle nudge out the door? Whatever the answer it's certainly an embarassing turn of events for Reilly.

Kenny to keep close watch on Reilly's spending - National News - Independent.ie

TAOISEACH Enda Kenny will be keeping a close watch on embattled Health Minister Dr James Reilly next year.

Mr Kenny says he will be getting more involved in the Department of Health in 2013 to make sure coalition targets for the health service are met. It comes after Dr Reilly was embroiled in controversy throughout the past year, with budget over-runs and controversies over primary care centres and his personal finances dogging him.

It has been well signaled that there will be a reshuffle in July after the EU presidency. Reilly will be shifted to somewhere he can be hidden and do FA damage. The muppet will be put back in the box until we all need some entertainment again, I hope all the FGers don't now start accusing me of cyber bullying:)

Enda Kenny made Enda Kenny king! That is his greatest strength! That people have and will always continue to underestimate him!

if it wasn't for reilly and hogan, kenny would never have survived the leadership challenge from bruton in june 2010, would kenny have the balls to send reilly to the backbenches or will reilly be given another cabinet position. Who will get the health position? Who'd be mad enough to take the job?

He will be sent to a Department like Defense, so he can sit on it.

Thread title is misleading. It almost looks like Reilly was sacked or something. It just says Kenny is to keep a closer eye on the health budget.

As a deflection thread from Dessie Ellis, it's a weak effort.

I doubt the OP is trying to give cover to Ellis, and besides this is hardly the Joe Duffy show!

If it wasn't for this, if it wasn't for that... and as we all know, if your Aunt had balls and all of that...

The point of the matter is that he did survive and not only that he thrived and all despite the best efforts over the years of the Bertie/Biffo cheer leading media and not too mention the wannabe Brutonites within the FG party! You don't get to the position that Enda Kenny now finds himself in without having something about you! In time, Enda Kenny will go down as one of FG's most successful ever leaders and one of the better Taoisigh to have served this country.

As for the rest of your post, who knows what Enda will do in the reshuffle but most of what you read in the 'Bindo' and this article is no exception is idle speculation!

I think the high pay is a gimme in fairness. It's what they do. But I agree with you on the slap down.a big move for Kenny. For obvious reasons Reilly and Hogan were untouchable in their eyes. It would now seem not. Kenny is sending out a message. Will Reilly fight back I wonder?

Wht wait 6 months for a re shuffle ?...., there's a problem with the man and his department - sort it.

What is it with the Irish psyche that makes us so timid about taking tough decisions.

I think there's a case for national psychoanalysis, I really do.
Self medication with alcohol just isn't working any more.

Cowen and ~Ahern, only achievements are destroying their party and the country Enda Kenny has a list of achievments to his name
He alone kept credible opposition alive in Ireland , when the Ole Ole crown in the media were cheering on the Kamakazi Policies of the past 20 years, he resurrected his party from the dead, he survived a leadership challenge, and came out on top, against the odds.
He has regained international respectability for this country, he has regained respectability for the office of Taoiseacht, after two deliquents being in office, etc etc..........and you dont get to be leader of any country without a lot of political nous....

It's really only the great Irish politicians who make the tough decisions.

Gaelers really are obsessed with the shinners. It's like a disease with them.
