The picturesque Norfolk town of Cromer is on lockdown today after numerous incidents over the weekend. Social media are linking the incidents with the arrival of a group of Travellers but the police are refusing to confirm this.

The local council has said that a group of travellers in 23 caravans had set up camp in the town's Runton Road car park. They were served a notice on Saturday for them to leave.

This is the town's annual carnival week and there is a lot of anger that what should have been the liveliest and biggest weekend of the year has been ruined.

EDIT:
Please see the link below to a post by Malcolm Redfellow in which the local police state that it's wrong to put all the blame for the disorder on the Travelling community.

Just tow their caravans away if they refuse to go willingly, they are nothing but a menace to the locals.

Their "lifestyle" entitles them to behave in this manner.

And the fact that when they do it at home they rarely get called to account.

If Brexit puts a stop to their canter (and they're a minority within the Travellers), it'll be one good thing to emerge from the UK's exit from the EU.

Caught a bit of this on Sky and i thought they were talking about youth anti social behavior etc , the bit I heard did not make it clear it was travelers , but maybe they mentioned that at the start of the segment, which I missed.

You would very annoyed if lived or had a business in that town.

The article presents a somewhat confused story.

In one place it says:

"We acknowledge there have been a number of incidents in Cromer over the weekend, which will understandably cause concern.
"However, I can assure residents these incidents have been dealt with appropriately and are of a nature routinely dealt with in towns such as Cromer on a busy August weekend."

Either way, it seems like they've been moved on

Lifestyle? No, tis their culture, and we can't question that.

Upon which thriving East Coast seaside resort will they impose themselves next, one wonders.

Whatever lifestyle they have doesnt mean they should be allowed to break the law, they need to be evicted from the car parks.

The Norfolk version of Back to the Future where Marty McFly actually shags his mum. And then travels backwards in time....

The local council confirms that the Travellers have moved on.

Let's be scientific about this. 23 caravans is what? 50-70 people?

There are roughly 45,000 Travellers between here and the UK. If the majority behaved like that every weekend, it would be like a low-level civil war. There's no low-level civil war going on. Conclusion: the (vast?) majority behave well.
