Very unlucky not to qualify for '82.

That was a really good team we had.

It does seem that there's a legitimate case for some dubious refereeing in that match.

Some serious talent in that Irish squad that would have competed well in what was a very good WC (arguably the last "open football" tourny).

Frog commentary. Platini, Six et al come to Dublin 1981.

Dunphy did torture his fellow Drumcondra man and former team mate.At the final press conference after defeat to Denmark in 1985, Eoin Hand wanted himself and Dunphy to step outside and sort things out.

Dunphy at the time really loved the line, 'number me rage', from the Talk Talk song, 'Such a Shame'.

I knew it was Eoin Hand he had in mind, Dunphy enjoyed Hand's anger, he liked the taste of it and desired making more people number Dunphy with rage in the future.

Yes I remember thinking that Dunphy was great around that time but we've all discovered what a little bo**ox he was since then . I always regretted his fallout with Keane-another little f**k but he eventually falls out with most people. But those two w****rs were made for each other. The killer is that Hand was actually a good manager but was denied qualification by an all too frequent bizarre decision from the ref. disallowing a perfectly good goal from Frank Stapleton.

Was part of this issue that Hand had replaced Giles?

I think I read that Giles had been in charge for first game , a 3-2 win away to Cyprus? Wasn't it on goal difference we lost out to France?.

Look forward to this book. As has been said already Hand was very unlucky. Unlike some people think football didn't begin in this country upon Jack Charlton taking charge in 1986.

Probably the best team we ever had.. Better even than 88.

Eric arsehole Gerets.

I hope he has piles the size of melons, and spends his days sitting on a park bench...
