Major escalation tonight with over a dozen masked men throwing a petrol bomb into a PSNI car while the policeman was inside, then burned it outside Alliance MLA Naomi Long's office. Incredibly serious escalation in the violence. Time for the army to be deployed.

BBC News - Police attacked before car burnt out outside Naomi Long office

Long said:
"My thoughts are with the police officers who were there to serve the community and have been viciously attacked while carrying out their duties.

"There can be no justification for attacks on the police, elected representatives or anyone else

"If Northern Ireland is to move forward then we need a strict adherence to the rule of law and respect for the democratic process. We need this urgently before lives are lost."

There needs to be security posted outside SF and Alliance MLA offices and potentially homes after this attack. The PSNI also need to contain the rioting and hunt down those responsible. There are army barracks there, the army could easily be able to assist in the protection and allow the PSNI focus on identifying the animals doing this.

Tonight's as clear a warning shot as you're going to get. Waiting for an MLA to be attacked or a PSNI member killed before doing what's required will be too late.

So how many plastic bullets fired approximately in this serious escalation?
And why isn't the UDA and UVF leadership being rounded up for breach of licence and put behind bars?
To the British a 69 year old woman making a speech in a graveyard is a threat , yet UDA leaders declare themselves and give open interviews in the media.
This is no different to the policing in 1969.

You don't need the army. You just need the cops to do their job. Standing by watching these yobs isn't courageous policing.

Any chance we can get the army to seal the border and keep all the nutters in their own country?

Sunday. Loyalist rioting in Belfast.
Monday. PSNI visit homes of peaceful placard holders in Ardoyne with summons.

How's that police accountability coming on, SF?
