Some common sense from Europe, with the diplomatic language being as direct as it gets:

Passing Budget 'necessary' for rescue package - RT News
Amadeu Altafaj told RTÉ: 'When it comes to calling elections that is an issue for the Taoiseach and for domestic political debate, and we won't intrude on that debate.
'However, we welcome the firm commitment of the Taoiseach and the Government to complete all the necessary legislative agreements, including the primary focus of the four year plan, which is the December budget.'
He added: 'While we will not interfere in the political affairs of a member state, it is important that the parliament supports these efforts.'

Who are the EU to dictate to us?

We can just as easily tear up any budget after the election and tell the EU to get lost.

Amadeu Altafaj find the nearest cliff and jump off it, don't dictate to us when we can or should have a general election.

Me thinks, FF + the banks + the Irish oligarachs + the the EU + IMF had the end game (Irish loss of Soverenty & return to slave labour) well planned even years before the Celtic Tiger Boom era.

Why don't we tell the Germans to have an election next week because Merkels tash is really freaking us out. If they refuse we just cut off our banking system systematically collapsing the whole Euro and costing the Germans about 400billion directly.

We have the bomb people should be listening to us

The decisions being taken now will affect Ireland for a long time. An election will take a couple of months. There will be greater stability and support for those decisions if the government taking them have the mandate to do so. It makes much more sense to have an election and I don't believe we won't get support from some of our EU partners especially from the British. Not much the EU or anyone can do if that is what we decide.

Our membership of the Euro, with inappropriate interest rates got us into this. Where were our current European overlord central bankers when our Irish financial control took a holiday for almost a decade?

Their only interest in us now is to retrieve money gambled by foreign bankers.

They "... haven't gone away you know!"

And Sinn Fein wonder why so many people consider them unfit for government in this republic.

Better spuds than cheese. We are fecked either way by telling the EU/IMF to get lost we save our grandchildren from crippling taxation and maintain the ability to run our state. Otherwise we are back in the dark days of Ireland and our best and brightest getting on the boat

Bet you've been waiting all night to write a comment like that. Éamonn will surely give you a gold star tomorrow for that one

I can recommend a book on introductory economics if you like. Maybe then you'd get how this whole crisis has come about and how we should manage our way out of it. Burning our international bridges is the sort of playground nationalism that Sinn Fein excel in.

You're the one who raised the prospect of bombing Germany. I guess old habits die hard for murderers and paedo-protectors and their apologists.
