If Latvia had any sense it would stay out of the common currency.

Latvia confidently fulfils all the Maastricht criteria.
Such a shame that the big countries didn't give a flying f*ck about the same criteria.

Since joining the EU Latvia's population has declined by 300,000 and they have had a dreadful economic crisis. So obviously the next step is to hand over total control to the Germans so they can destroy whatever is left. Well done Latvia.

This slight recession thingy intervened. You must have heard about it?

The big bad recession, aye. Nothing whatsoever to do with internal devaluation cause by membership of the common currency.

But I thought the euro was going to split within days???
Let's see if they actually join. There would be no benefit in declaring an intention not to join now while they still have a year to squeeze what they can out of the desperate Eurocrates who are trying so hard to keep up the pretense that the Euro has a future.

Pretty much proves that all these twits who think the Euro is doomed, a basket case, people don't want to be seen dead with it etc etc are a load of utter bull.

That gross incompetent David McWilliams, for example. Collect 10 crisp packets and become an economist....

Latvia if approved are joining on 01.01.2014
A decision will be made in a few weeks and they will start minting coins and getting ready

Approval for new countries has come about 6-8 months before adoption for all countries since 2002

Some lovely looking women in Latvia and hopefully some of them will move here with their Euro's.
Right now i can't think of any other obvious benefits.

Why the hell does Latvia want to join the euro? And why the hell is the eurozone letting other countries in: doesn't it have enough on its hands?

Great idea lads! Lets make a currency that covers an area with too many diverse economies bigger!
