Has this already been discussed. How are people already struggling to pay huge mortgages gonna be able to afford this.

Sources have indicated that it is almost certain to figure prominently in the four-year budgetary plan to cut the deficit, which is set to be unveiled in the next few weeks.

The tax would cost €80 a month for the average household based on a property value of €240,000.

The majority of the tax would be paid in Dublin, as incomes and property values are higher on the east coast. Some 55pc of the tax would be raised in the greater Dublin area.

Also, tax will be based on a valuation of the home.

Will people with trackers then be asked to pass this valuation to their bank?

If people end out paying 1000 euor tax on their home and only 200 euro tax on a rental property it's gonna be hard to justify!

.4% of a house worth €500,000 is €2,000 per annum.

Takes absolutely no account of

1. Personal circumstances
2. Debt
3. Employment Status
4. Ability to pay

Crazy stuff !!!

Pay the property tax or pay your mortgage & food bill ?

Easy enough choice. If you are a politician on €100,000+ expenses + vhi etc......... it sounds like a fantastic plan. But YOU ARE OUT OF TOUCH WITH REAL PEOPLE earning average wages.

Why not eliminate the tax relief on mortgage interest rate.

And whist they're at it bin collection tax relief.

That would raise more.

i'm sure that taking just under a €1000 a year just to pay interest repayments from most households will stimulate growth and drop unemployment.

Get real, how many households have the full Sky Subs? I doubt not many so getting rid of SKY will not free up funds.

I have Sky and im dropping it to pay for other household bills, thankfully Im more technology minded to understand that Irish DTT has launched and Ive replaced my Sky Box to a Sky Freesat setup. How many people in Ireland know how to do that?

Whats next? Get rid of Christmas and Birthdays so that we can all give FF some extra cash?
