In an interesting development into US leaking, particularly around the HRC campaign, the Guardian are reporting that Nigel Farage is now "a person of interest" to the FBI in their enquiries.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/jun/01/nigel-farage-is-person-of-interest-in-fbi-investigation-into-trump-and-russia

It seems his relationships with several people "triangulate" with Trump, Julian Assange and the Russians.

Curiouser and curiouser...

Has Farage been playing the "great game" all along? Or is it just a case of him being in the wrong place at the wrong time (repeatedly)?

1. Links to Breitbart and Farage's/UKIP's press office - Raheem Kassam
2. Dinner attended by Farage, Kassam and Jeff Sessions
3. Farage's visit to Julian Assange
4. Farage has a 5 year association with Steve Bannon
5. Farage among the first politicians to meet Trump in the interregnum

I have a feeling this could run and run. It will also be interesting to see if Labour and the Lib Dems will try to use this to damage the "Leavers" in the Tory party. Strap in, folks, this one should be a doozy (as the yanks would say)

FFS , this is just getting hysterical now , just scatter gun approach , name everyone and anyone that Trump has ever met and accuse them of been a Russian spy.

I have no don't in years to come people will look back and cringe at the hysteria of reds under the bed climate that exists in the US today.

It was far worse in the 1950's.

I doubt that Farage has the nous to have been consciously playing the Great Game, but his financial backers are a whole other kettle of fish.

Oh dear. The Liberal media in the US is going to eat this up in their eternal quest to prove that their Queen was robbed of Her victory.

Farage couldn't boil an egg let alone engage in cloak and dagger shenanigans with Russia and Trump.

As to be expected. I doubt Farage is a sort of a Machiavellian Bond Villain type, but he's hitched his wagon to an awful lot of loons, to be fair, so bound to be of interest.

Sounds like a Guardian columnists wet dream that they then committed to paper as a conspiracy theory thriller - Trump, Farage, Putin and Brexit all wrapped up in a Remainer bow.

It is not far off it now , people look back and laugh at the hysteria back then and wonder how people were so caught up in it. But now it is happening to those very people. The media have put so much into this that there now has to be collusion or a massive spy ring or they are going to look like bonkers conspiracy theorists, you can see how much they are willing there to be something there thus this ridiculous linking of everyone. But so far no evidence.

If this special investigator ex FBI chap finds nothing as well then he will just become the latest Russian spy as someone digs up a picture of him drinking vodka or eat cavier as proof he is a Russian spy.

Well, Joe McCarthy was a drunken buffoon, but it wasnt until the VENONA files were declassifed in the 1990s that the US learned there actually were 3000 Soviet moles in the US administration. Off-topic, but just correcting the popular fallacy that the Red Scare was totally illusory. You're welcome.

FBI is as porous as a sieve now.

Apparently.

If someone really is under investigation, doesn't logic say that those doing the investigating would not give their quarry the heads up?

To be fair, it's often the people least suitable for cloak and dagger sh1te whose overblown egos lead them into having a go at it. Just look at the eejits around Trump.

This is very true. Even back in the Good Old Days, the KGB etc said recruiting an actual walk-in (someone who offered to spy for ideological motives) was a -cough - Red Letter Day. Most spies were blackmailed, greedy ie they wanted money, Walter Mitties who enjoyed the drama, people who had a grudge against a superior or society at large, or those whose vanity was tickled by the amount of attention and grooming they got from their handlers.

The latter didnt even realise in some cases that they were engaged in espionage - just doing a favour, being important, having secret meetings etc etc.
