Who was the auctioneer?

Was there an auctioneer or was the land sourced other than on the open market?

Was the land zoned?

I had experience of purchasing office space for the State. We were not obliged to use the OPW and did not do so. We went to a private estate agents and the first thing they said was "don't tell anyone you are looking for space and any office space you do go to to see don't tell anyone that you are the State or the price will double". Perhaps that explains it. A good deal was got.

More wastage here, from the Tribune again. A piece of land that FAS bought in 2004 in Birr, went from €770,000 to €1.51million in just a few months.

The article also states the piece of land didn't even have planning permission.

The site has never been used.

Why did cost of Fás site in Birr double in just a few months?
I'm not surprised. Birr is such a property hotspot. Who wouldn't like to live there?

London, Paris, New York...Birr

apologies in advance to all Birr residents

It was origanlly bought from Respond a charitible housing agency, but they decided to sell the whole 25 acre site to a developer (don't know who this is) with a clause to sell 5.6 acres of the site to FAS.
Very odd, this has a smell of the "battle of the boyne" site fiasco where a person connected to aherns digouts got a finders fee ?

Pre planning consultations should be on file in the County Council

It would be nice to see the views of the Planning authority

Any one got an coordinates for the site? re OSI

He bought the whole site of 26 acres off Respond. Respond put a clause in when selling the land to McLoughlin that he had to sell 5.6 acres to FAS as per FAS & Repond's deal.
I dont know to much about buying land like this, but is this normal? Why just not sell it in 2 seperate lots?

The property developer that the land was bought of was Finbarr McLoughlin a Tipperary property developer.
So, McLoughlin was the person who pocketed the cash on the deal?
Is this the Same farmer-turned developer Finbarr McLoughlin? If so he was appointed by Haughey's last government back in the heady days of 1989to chair the Eradication of Animal Disease Board. After denying any wrongdoing, He was forced into an embarassing resignation (remember those?) having being linked to an illegal EU milk-quota scam.

Was going to reply with this info to the Molloy Pension Boost thread but it was already covered here last January.

Were the FAS staff asked if they were willing to relocate to Birr before the site was overpaid for??

Was a cost/benefit analysis undertaken?

Lets not jump to conclusions about massive corruption. We are choking with the smoke and the heat is intense but Coughlan, Cowen and Lenihan will angrily deny there is a fire.
Nama will be an inferno of corruption.
