Never been on a protest myself. But the following is a video from a police perspective. The narrator draws the analogy to Hitlers Germany.

A bridge too close

A Bridge
Because of our geographical location at the western edge of Europe, the island of Ireland is strategically located as a bridge between Europe and America. The importance of this strategic location is often missed by the Irish People, who have no historic ambitions of conquest. However others have not missed its significance. Perhaps the strategic significance of Cuba, as a perceived threat to American Security, might be a reminder that our strategic location on the edge of Europe, might be seen as a potential weakness in European security.

In peacetime this location provides Ireland with a unique economic opportunity, to facilitate transport of goods and people, between the two continents of Europe and America.

In time of war we will be unable to prevent the occupation of this island by one or other protagonist. The European Union has already recognised this potential threat at their backdoor, and has contingency plans to deal with the situation. If Hitler had invaded Ireland, the outcome of WW2 would have been very different. America would not have been able to intervene, in support of the allies. We would have a very different European Union.

Germany was defeated by Marshal Zhukov and General Winter. American intervention shortened the war, but Germany was defeated in the East.
