You really couldn't make this up. A Fine Gael Councillor in Kerry was told by her own party Cathaoirleach of the council to dye her hair blond if she hoped to be noticed and to get to speak. Ms Thornton had worn a yellow jacket in the hope of catching the eye of her party colleague who chairs the 33 member authority.

When this didn't work a SF councillor urged her to bring a helmet to the March meeting in the hope of being noticed and being allowed to speak.

A few years ago a FG councillor in Kildare was sent packing when he made discriminatory remarks of a racist nature. Surely the men in suits in FG will have to act in a similar way to avoid embarrassment in the Kingdom to the party?

However given the reality that Dr Varadkar doesn't seem to rate women politically, will he turn a blind eye to what's going on in Kerry? Should Leo just this once speak up in defence of women and will he need a high vis jacket to be taken seriously?

Clearly the jokes were made after she said she wore the bright colored jacket to get his attention. There is some truth behind his joke (as with most jokes) though as many women dye their hair blonde to get men's attention. Fair play to her though ... her strategy worked... Hon the Kingdom!
