That was a FG/Labour coalition.
A FG/Labour coalition is the one thing we should strive to avoid, given the differences between the parties. An FG government, with the support of others is a better option.

Had he something against children or was he trying to clean up a dreadful financial mess left by a Fianna Fail government? We have been through this movie before.

Wow!!! It seems ZanuFF and the lefties are all panicking and beginning to throw any old human waste at FG. I expect FG will remain aloof and allow the lesser parties to squabble and play with the aforementioned substance. FG have more important things to do - such as preapring for single party government.

What's so bad about a Tory government?

All our governments so far have been like UK Labour governments: most of the time, when they leave office, they have already bankrupted the country. Just like Fianna Fáíl.

It was the latter but one of the dumbest Budget moves ever. In 1982 we had little in the way of anything. Everything else was taxed to the hilt. Once they discovered how utterly banjaxed we were he reckoned it was a good option.

+100

It would be pointless for FG to lower itself to respond to such sorts of attacks from the lesser parties. Let labour and the maFFia crap all over each other, there will only be one winner.

There are advantages and disadvantages to having a single Party Government

In this State since we have never had a Right Wing or a Left Wing version of that with an overall majority

- we got a hybrid called FF!

But we are now heading into the greatest Financial and Political crises since the days of the Civil War

There is a very real possibility that the State will have declare itself a Bankrupt within the next few months.

This is deadly deadly serious.

We do not need and cannot afford to install a Gridlock Government to replace the current bunch of incompetents.

We need Strong Government that can act - and act fast - and will not be hamstring by inter Governmental horse trading to arrive at messy compromises to placate vested interest groups.

A FG Government holds some dangers all right - no doubt about it.

But its the only viable option right now.

IMO

Hitting the most vulnerable in society? And what has FF been doing over the last few budgets?

Hilarious the number of threads like this that have appeared recently criticising FG.

If you have to go back to 1982 to try to smear a party, the word desperate comes to mind. :)

I'm sure whatever government comes to power they will have to make decisions that will prove unpopular to one lobby group or another. However there is uniformity of opinion that bringing in the IMF is the single worst event to ever happen to our economy.

Where does a bad policy of VAT on shoes rate in comparison to that?

Its the hysteria that makes me laugh. One poll showing FG at 38%, far from enough for an overall majority and the sky is falling. Luckily, those of us who are actually involved with political parties know the campaign is at the half way stage:lol:

But you're still going to vote for FF cos they won't give in to Labour, right?
