From Simon Coveney:

“Of course, anyone paying commercial tax on a vehicle should use that vehicle primarily for work or commercial purposes. But the suggestion that the authorities would try to police commercial 4x4s and small vans is ridiculous."

News - Gormley?s latest crazy plan - Coveney

Has it not been unofficial FF policy to support all types of tax evasion?? The heading is deliberately misleading and utter nonsense.

Where exactly does it say FG support tax evasion??
"Of course, anyone paying commercial tax on a vehicle should use that vehicle primarily for work or commercial purposes"

The law states that commercial tax is only available where the vehicle is used exclusively for commercial purposes.

More generally, he is opposed to attempts by the Department of the Environment to enforce the law in relation to tax evasion.

Yep ensuring Commercial vehicle drivers dont dare run an errand that might be considered private is the biggest problem facing the Guards at the moment.... they should take the special forces out of Limerick and stop all surveilance on Drug gang and their murderous feuds and concentrate all their resources on this ..

P.ie hits a new low in stupid threads !!!

Lets say I own a Transit for work, use to carry my tools and materials but have a a car at home that I use for the weekends and my wife uses during the week.

Monday to Friday I go to work and drive right past my kids school so I give them a lift.

According to Gormley I now have to pay private tax instead of commercial.

Lets say I have a small VW caddy van that I use for work to carry tools. My wife gives me a call on a Thursday and asks me to pick up some shopping on the way home. Gormley now wants me to pay private tax instead of commercial.

Lets say I have a large 4x4 twin cab that I bought as a commercial vehicle and tax as a commercial vehicle. My wife has her own car but we use mine as the main car. The biggest thing that was ever in the back was the paving stone we picked up at the garden centre. Now Gormley wants me to tax it privately instead of commercially.

Now I and 99% of the population can see the difference between the three examples.

However Gormley (and apparently you) cannot. That is why the Greens face oblivion in the next election.

Its a pretty simple proposition.

Should the law in relation to motor tax be enforced or not?

I don't care what Ryan says, or what other laws are enforced or not.

Do Fine Gael think this law should be enforced?

Welcome to the real world goosebump.

They shouldn't use it outside of work but they do. How much money are you prepared to pi$$ down the drain trying to stop something that cannot be stopped - especially when all they have to say is they are going to or from work.

Coveney is correct in calling it as he sees it and your attempt to portray this as supporting tax evasion are dishonest to say the least.

No, according to The Law you have to pay private tax instead of commercial.

This thread isn't about the Gormley. Its about FG's position vis a vis law enforcement.

It is tax evasion. The fact that it's been accepted by successive governments doesn't mean it's not tax evasion.

Sure even Da Bert does not have a tax clearance certificate. But he is a member of FF, so he probable does not need one
