Fianna Fail have played a blinder and stiched up the opposition.

The bailout is on Standby, confirmed by the EU.

So Fianna Fail can sit back and put their feet up because,

If the opposition dont vote for the budget Fianna Fail can call them traitors and call a General election knowing that the opposition will have to call in the IMF.

If the opposition vote for the budget, Fianna Fail can muddle on untill a GE and then after they loose they can attack the opposition for calling in the IMF/EU

FF have nearly made it home and dry. Look at what they have saved for their own future as they leave office;
Croke Park agreement for unions.
NAMA to save their supporters.
Claims that they have managed the downturn and stabilised the public finances.
Protected the old age pensioners.
The Dempsey line on infrastructure.

They know they're gone in a month or three. They want to be gone when the money runs out next year. They leave the poisoned chalice of having to get money from EU or IMF to others. No wonder tonight it was the same old guff from Cowen. No wonder that Lenihan will fight tooth and nail to hold off EU support. FF are nearly home and dry. The Legion of the Rearguard have fought to save the party. They will go shortly but they won't be seen to carry the blame by the 44 percent. Incompetent to the end except for the one thing they do better than anyoone else: bluffed blustered and masked their motives and fooled the electorate yet again.

They won't even make it that far, if they don't take the bailout it's game over. The ECB is not willing to replace anymore deposits on top of what they've already given under current arrangements, i suspect there leaking out bigtime now.
The world has given up on ff, it's the end of the road.

Irish banks can't money from the inter-bank Market.
They have tapped the ECB for 90bn.
The ECB want Ireland to borrow 90bn to solve the liquidity problem with the banks.
Ireland is delaying, so one presumes we are haggling over the rate.
If it works, it will Lenihan's finest hour.
(as a plus we are devaluing the Euro).

The budget can pass without the opposition supporting it. Your point is moot.

FF won't have the luxury. They are done for when the opposition finally have control of the state and will have to look out just for their own skins. Not to mention most of them won't have jobs!

More likely is that some extremist third (4th) party would be free to break in if people blame the current opposition if the state is bailed out on their watch.

However, fortunately this chance is lessened by the opposition being more than one party, and the likely third party being pretty irrelevant to most of this state.

Likely outcome - reduced voting turnout when people get disillusioned with the new govt. FF can forget a come-back, especially as the bail-out would likely be early in the new govt. and clearly FF's legacy.

Another view would be that the Budget is now being decided by the EU, so the party's and independents are now free to vote the Budget down to get rid of Fianna Fail once and for all, given that our futures are probably being handed to us tonight by Brussels.

Into the ECB for €90Bn, Germany for €136Bn and the UK for €150Bn. Jaysus where the hell did it all go? They're tapped out. Even the reserve they have is borrowed for heaven's sake. I'm sick to whats left of me back teeth listening to all this craven s**te from this profligate and wanton excuse for a government. Tge greens have gone to grass over the past few days - wonderfully silent.

I blame the entire Oireachtas and the two million brainwashed serfs who abdicated sovereignty to them without any method of recall. They'd do it all again tomorrow if they were let.

The days of FF pulling the wool over peoples eyes are over. They will be remembered for generations as traitors, criminals and scum.

Death to FF, a criminal syndicate that masquerades as a political party.

Oh Yeah.

Stitched the opposition up real good.

They are just so good at this politics-spin stuff. They've stitched the whole country up. Fvcked us and our futures too - and make it sound like patriotism.

Buoyed by their success they now threatening to screw all of Europe for decades.

What a blinder, the word play; dodging responsibility - laying the blame on the German (partners), the EU, the opposition, the media, the people and Michael Noonan.

They are so clever and cunning. You might even say they are cute hoors.

If we were out to dinner with them they'd have us rolling round with their clever and entertaining wit, wine flowing, good times like they'd never been away.

Hope we all feel the same when they slip out the back door and stick us with the bill.

They have lied to the people, the Oireachtas and no longer serve any legitimate purpose in our country. They are prepared through their obfuscation and lies to endanger the existance of the Euro and the EC. These selfish people should hang their collective heads in shame. They have destroyed any chance for our continued sovereignty as a free and self sufficient society.

They will be voted back in next time - just in time for the 2016 celebrations. That is how sophisticated our electorate is.
