Financial Regulator Pat Neary has announced his resignation, just on the RTE News at 9.

"The Minister for Finance, Mr. Brian Lenihan, TD, notes the statement today of the Irish Financial Services Regulatory Authority concerning its report on matters surrounding directors' loans in Anglo Irish Bank and the regulatory response.

The Minister notes the retirement of the Authority's Chief Executive and that, pending the appointment of a new Chief Executive, the Chairman of the Authority will take on an expanded executive role and that an Acting Chief Executive will be appointed.

The Minister will consider the Authority's report and will then bring proposals to Government in relation to the appointment of a new Chief Executive."

Rats fleeing the sinking ship.

What's his golden failure handshake gonna be like?

Will this clown cost us €100k every year until the day he dies?

RTE News, quote: "Financial Regulator Patrick Neary...has decided to retire".

This country is such a joke.

I'd say he's sitting in a comfortable armchair sipping a hot whiskey as we speak.

Plenty of happy grandchildren to tell old war stories to.

Apparantly there is some reference in this investigation report to documents having 'gone missing'??

A strangely frequent occurance within state bodies over the years.

Anyone have that clip of him on prime time (around the time the government gave the banking guarantee) where he attempted to claim that the crisis in the banking system was "completely unrelated" to the housing market?

Lots of planes tend to go missing there too...
Totally unrelated but I can't miss the opportunity.
Didn't air corps planes set down in such climes according to some testimony in theMahon tribunal?

Thank god for that. A new year new regulator.

I first saw the guy on Prime Time, think alot of people lost confidence in him too after seeing his performance during the interview with Mark Little.
