Things seem to be accelerating at last!

As a result of the Fine Gael decision, Minister for Education and Skills Mary Coughlan has had to cancel a planned visit to the US this week for a mission involving Enterprise Ireland.
Should be an interesting week in politics. Good that our Minister for Evolution and Almae Mater won't be making a show of herself. Now all we need is for Gilmore to trump that move....;)

Good decisive move by Kenny. Politics is a numbers game, if John Curran has to force ministers to cancel trips, or even force ill TDs to postpone medical appointments to vote down by-elections or ensure victory in minor acts, that is a matter for his conscience. Fine Gael TDs will be turning up for work and doing their job. Now will Labour, SF and the Indo's have the balls to do the same?

FG have achieved nothing yet.

As I said on the other thread on this issue it petty political point scoring by FG
If the Government lose the vote then it'll be much more than point scoring.

Lets be frank about this....

Mary Coughlan said 12 weeks ago she would be in the Dail to answer questions on FAS....

She clearly knew she was needed in the Dail as she had goven assurances that important issues relating to the FAS money would be answered.

She gave her comittment to the Dail 12 weeks ago and decided to go on some trade show in America, which now her department are sending someone in her place...

The only thing Petty in this - Is the continued absense of Fianna Fail dealing with FAS

SF don't take part in pairing arrangements.

Why aren't FG taking the opportunity to table a Private Members' motion that would really put the Government under pressure, e.g. calling for the retention of services at regional hospitals?

Wrong again. You are looking at it the wrong way. Cowen claims his mandate is from the Dail not the People. fine gael's mandate to oppose FF is certainly from their voters. That can only be expressed by all its TDs turning up to vote.

Mary should answer the FAS questions in the Dail a weeks delay in that is not going to make a blind bit of difference.

Mods please merge these threads as I am saying the same thing twice. Mary should answer the FAS questions in the Dail however the fact the it may be to put off for a week while she attends to state business should not make a difference.

So after giving a commitment of the 29th of sept - after months of chasing she is ok to just leave the country.

What is this Trade Mission?
Any idea why other people are attending on different days and as been hinted is over 7 days so why the need to go on the Wed she was due to sit in the Dail?

You seem to be ok with the mission - so what was it?
Any Idea if others Heads of Education accross Europe are attending just on Wednesday?

Thanks
