Evening Echo — ESB increase discharges from Inniscarra Dam

THE ESB has begun discharging increasing levels of water from the Inniscarra Dam in recent hours (Monday afternoon) with possible flooding of land and property as a result.

They said the heavy rain over the weekend from Storm Desmond has increased inflows significantly into the Lee Dam reservoirs at Inniscarra and Carrigadrohid.

“We expect to continue to spill at Inniscarra Dam over the coming week to draw down reservoir levels. There may be associated flooding of roads, land and property adjacent to the banks of the River Lee downstream of Inniscarra.”
Could we have 2009 all over again?

Businesses being asked to prepare. EG:

@niamhaineryan ( on twitter ) Hearing reports that Bon Secours staff in Cork have been asked to remove their cars from car park due to serious flood risk

At least there is advanced warning this time. Haven't checked the link and maybe they say this in the article but I presume they have to discharge some of the water if there is too much which could lead to damage of the electricity supply/infrastructure etc.

And Foney Gael.

ESB on settled the last farrago 2 weeks back.
Moanie Joanie's crocodile tears have the country flooded. What we need is some tropical Socialist weather, none of this fake nonsense.

I smell a conspiracy to wipe Cork off the map.

It has my whole-hearted support.

Maybe, like Greenland, Cork was named Cork as some sick joke.

They are releasing a third of what they released in the November 2009 flood event.

Just checked the timeline of the wind readings from the Fastnet.

Since the ESB opened the dam, the wind is dropping and swinging safely SW.

So does the Almighty shield His chosen people. :D

Not again, I'm supposed to be driving up the Lee Road in a minute...

Remember how they said 2009 was a once in a thousand year event...
But maybe they had started counting from 1010 !!

Safe driving.

Well I for one will take some ISIS refugees in just in case they make us take a corkonian if we have a spare bedroom. You might get your head sliced off but at least you won't have to hear how much better everything is in the town of Cork.
