A former Waterford town councillor, who arrived in Ireland for a wedding at the weekend, was arrested and appeared in court today on corruption charges.

Fred Forsey Jr (41), a father-of-three with an address supplied at Coolagh Road in Abbeyside, Dungarvan, appeared at the District Court in Waterford city and faced a number of charges under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2001.
More here

Mr. Forsey replaced John Deasy by co-option in 2003 and was subsequently elected onto Dungarvan Town Council in 2004.

Good to see the Gardaí acting quickly. Looks like he had left the country during the investigation and was arrested immediately on return.

What are they guilty of exactly? And how come a city the size of Waterford had planning permission in train for SEVEN separate shopping centres during the Happy Years?

They aren't guilty of anything. They've only been charged. But it would be interesting to hear the allegations themselves. Anybody know?

You showed remarkable restraint in not mentioning his party affiliation.

At the moment, it's just at the charging stage. Beware prejudicing any trial.

Also, it relates too Dungarvan, which is in a different Local Authority from Waterford City.

Even more restraint in mentioning that while the man charged had been co-opted to replace Deputy Deasy, not mentioning that it had been Deputy Deasy that been the one who called the guards.

Funny that!
 jebus you just can't keep some people happy. How the hell should I know? I've made it quite apparent that I know nothing about the case other than what I've just read in the Times.

Thanks for the info!

Yes the wedding that he returned for at the weekend was a set up to trap him and time his arrest to deflect attention from Ivor.

No it is people like you who are the real clowns. Take a look at your own party first. Do I need to give you a lesson?

eh ... "too", actually.

In fairness, he reported something that was on the news. They reported it because he was just detained the other day. Hardly pathetic, unless you think such wrong-doing by FG cllrs should be hidden.

Someone's a bit defensive, methinks....

I would suggest that you take a little trip round the country. 10 FF TDs outside the fold. Talk about turning in on yourselves. Were you listening to Mattie McGrath today? Do you listen to John McGuinness, Noel O'Flynn...... Now I could go on and on.
Joe Behan dident last long as an FF TD in Wicklow. Visit the East Cork constituency...
Enough for the present. Just a little appetiser.
