Former Government Minister Gemma Hussey has posted a message on twitter suggesting that someone needs to ask Enda Kenny to go quietly. In her message posted earlier this morning she refers to the current FG leader as "a good and decent man".

Her message says the party needs a new energetic team which she says should include party finance spokesman Micheal Noonan.

A FG dinosaur speaks.

Maybe they should make Noonan leader?

Do these people learn anything from history?

Anyone remember when they were saying John Bruton should go quietly?

Who could disagree? All that nonsense that FGers came up with that Enda would be seen in a different light after seeing off the heave is just coming back to haunt them. Kenny is a decent man and he should know what is best for FG and the country. I expect an announcement within 72 hours.

Agreed, but don't expect an announcement - Big Phil & Dr James need Enda given how they behaved post heave, so they won't be asking him to go.

To sum up those who oppose Kenny's leadership. Kenny is a decent honest man, but the people don't seem to want that at the moment?

So they want a crooked corrupt leader of FG instead who will give the people what they want and engage in auction politics and corrupting of all around them?

Now more than ever we need decent honest politicians.

Be careful what you wish for, it just might come true.

Ahem ...
I think they want someone who looks more convincing.

Just cos Enda is decent and honest, it doesn't mean there are no other decent, honest people in FG capable of leading it ... or does it?

EDIT: and I don't think anyone's asking Enda to retire from politics.

If FG would just unite behind their leader, ditch the mutterings, get out on the street and say Enda is the man then I believe the people would follow. But the media seems to dominate. McCreevey, the megalomaniac Ahern & Tribal Cowen have done this country untold damage. Yet the media for forever and a day bash FG and especially Kenny. And now Fg seem to believe it all. The seeds of doubt have been sown.

Im 28 years old and I truly think Kenny could be an excellent Taoiseach.

His performances are nowhere near as bad as Cowen's & Bertie's.

We get what we deserve in this country.

The two most important positions in govt, are arguably Taoiseach and Finance. In FG these positions are occupied by two individuals who where both rejected by the electorate once. What on earth were FG thinking?

FG made the mistake of ditching their leader before on the basis of opinion polls.

It resulted in almost total destruction of the party.

Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Opinion polls do not automatically translate into GE results. And hardly anyone votes for a party based on who their leader is. They vote on how good a front bench is, how good policies are, how good the local candidate is.

Media outlets like the Sindo don't like Kenny because he won't dance to their tune, so no wonder they want him out. Kenny doesn't buy into the low level corruption that has always existed in Ireland, where people expect you to do favours for them. He's not a "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine" type politician so beloved of most Irish people, the type that exists in abundance in FF.

So no wonder the Irish people can't warm to Kenny. And it says more about the Irish people than Kenny.

By the way Kenny is the only leader who has called for the abolition of the Senate, which most people want. Put in another leader and it's probable the Senate won't be abolished. I believe Kenny can be a transformative leader for Ireland if elected.

But maybe its the fact he could be too radical that people don't like? Especially people in D4 and the establishment.

She is only saying what most FG members and supporters are thinking and muttering among themselves.

It doesn't matter how nice and decent Enda is, the people can't warm to him as an alternative Taoiseach.

If FG go into an election with Enda as leader, there is a growing danger that the party could end up third behind FF - when that party will be going to the polls as the most unpopular and incompetent government in the history of the State.

FG needs Kenny to go quietly now to give a new leader - Bruton, Reilly, Varadkar, even Noonan again - the chance to make an impact before the election which could be in a matter of months.

On the point of Noonan, maybe if he and FG had been elected in 2002 instead of Bertie Ahern and FF, we mightn't now be in the mess we are in.

Nobody is saying they want a crooked & corrupt leader - that's a strawman arguement there. Are you seriously saying that Richard Bruton, Michael Noonan, etc. are corrupt?

This is the FG woman who kept a diary. Her son sought FF nomination for co opting as a Cllr in Dublin, has she another son/daughter working for MGQ in Europe. She could not tolerate the farmers of Wicklow and rubber chicken dinners.

and look what our Taoiseach did in his previous portfolios. nothing but damage.

What were we thinking in 2007 when we ate up all the FF and Sindo BS to vote them back into power when the writing was clearly on the wall, if not the nearing crash but the blantant waste of public monies for sh.t services???

Coupled with that we in Ireland love a cute hoor that cheats and lies.

And we dismiss Kenny because hes not good at sounbites. HAH

That's not the point. FG hope that's the point....'ah sure they'll vote for us because we're not FF.' FG need to get their act together, fast.

Brilliant. This gave me a good laugh. So if the people of Ireland don't like Kenny it is they who are at fault and not Kenny?

This isn't about Kenny being honest, genuine, trustworthy or a nice guy. It's about him being credible. Anything else is a red herring in the argument.

So you'd prefer to see Michael Noonan as leader over Kenny?
