The man, John Kerins, was found dead in Bailieboro, Cavan, with gunshot wounds, but no sign of forced entry to his house. He had an interesting past.

The 49-year-old, who was originally from Co Meath, had lived in the area for a number of years.
He was a former senior detective based in the northeast and also in specialised units, including the fraud squad, in Dublin.
He left the force in 2009 on a medical discharge.
He was arrested earlier this year in Cork and questioned about handling stolen property.
Mr Kerins was a suspect in the disappearance of a local man over a year ago and was also suspected of involvement in the drugs trade.

He was known to a Dublin man who has been missing from the Cavan area for some months and is presumed murdered.
Gerard Daly, who was originally from Knockmore Gove, Tallaght, Dublin, was a dog breeder who had settled in the Bailieborough area in recent years. Nothing has been heard of him since he went missing on June 26th of this year.
He would have celebrated his 44th birthday on Wednesday. Gardaí have long been concerned for his safety and believe that he has met with foul play.

Paul Williams and Co. always seem to miss these stories.
That's extraordinary. Williams is usually so much on the ball. He can almost predict stuff before it happens. I'm disappointed in him now. Will just have to depend on the RTE guy for non news events.

F#cking Banana Republic.
Can't wait to hear what PJ Stone has to say about this. The thing that gets me, based on Reynolds report on RTE, is that despite all the internal enquiries, the theft whilst in the Gardai, he was never dismissed, he left on medical grounds so he held on to his salary and pension. Despite the Gardai knowing about his 'career' after the Gardai, he was still a free man. Does not set much of an example to younger cops and only serves to belittle the good cops

Which brings me back to my question earlier...

By the way, does anyone know whether there will ever be any movement in this case...
