Anyway, good suggestion, Pat. The lads in charge are throwing money around lIke sailors these days - the least they can do is spend a modest amount on something that seems to reduce the spread of this thing.

The US government agrees.

The U.S. government plans to distribute 96 million cloth face coverings for free to people riding on planes, trains and public transportation systems.

The Transportation Department said Friday it will provide 86.8 million masks to airports and 9.6 million to 458 transit agencies and Amtrak.

“This Administration is committed to protecting our people and reopening the economy,” Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao said in a press release. “Distributing these facial coverings will help boost public confidence as we begin to resume our normal lives.”

Airline and transit operations have seen dramatic reductions in use by the public in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. People are beginning to return to travel, but the levels are still far below a year ago.

On Thursday, 502,209 people went through Transportation Security Administration airport screening, the most since March 21, according to the agency. That represents about 19% of the equivalent day a year ago.

Most airlines and transit systems already require masks, though enforcement has been spotty.

The Transportation Department is working with the Health and Human Services Department, it said in a press release. The cloth coverings were obtained by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and will be distributed in the coming weeks.
Travelers are “still responsible for having their own facial covering” in situations in which it is required, the DOT said. The government’s supply is intended to be supplemental and availability is not guaranteed.

Workers in the transportation sector have been vulnerable to the disease. The Transportation Security Administration said 667 of its employees have tested positive for Covid-19, including five who have died.
Because airlines and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention haven’t agreed on a system to trace passengers who have flown with ill people, it’s not clear how many have been infected by air travel.
A second wave of infections by the novel coronavirus appears underway in the U.S. The case load is slowly growing nationally, while it rages in local hot spots, with wide differences in infection rates even within states.
Texas, California, Florida and Alabama all are among states where infections and hospitalizations are hitting new highs.

Get ready to bow down to the one world agenda. Lets all wear the burka and be obedient little robots. Follow the instructions of of Bill, get vacinated for everything, it will make the mask fit better too.

Interesting article on the politics of mask wearing in the USA written from the perspective of an American living in South Korea.
It is somewhat out of date as it was written at the end of June and Trump has since done a U-turn on the issue, but it is undeniable that he was a large part of the problem in creating the early resistance to wearing them.

Like most anything in the US, it didn’t take long before mask-wearing became politicized, with most “liberals” opting in and many “conservatives” opting out. The toxin of America’s rampant tribalism even managed to seep into something as seemingly benign as covering your face in the midst of a pandemic.
To do so in most of the world would be a no-brainer. Only in America could such a thing become weaponized as a way to score political points. When I tried to explain the situation back home to my Korean wife, she just shook her head and gasped, “That’s insane.”

Trump really is an infantile lunatic ...

For all our sakes I sincerely hope he isnt re-elected .. Imagine how bad he would be with no handbrake on .. nothing more to be be at least semi sensible about ..He wouldnt have to worry about being up the in polls for another and he probably couldnt/wouldnt be impeached again then he would have nothing to stop him going full Trump ... God forbid

Rasher Hash,
You've posted a link to a far right conspiracy website reporting out out of date, misleading and ultimately false information about hydroxychloroquine and think that you can convince anyone other that other daft conspiracy theorists? :ROFLMAO:
Consider this: weeks before Trump even heard of hydroxychloroquine it's possible uses was being studied elsewhere.
Chinese researchers were looking at it in early February.
French researchers were also studying the drug's efficacy very early. Researchers ended their interest in the drug in May because it was ineffective.
Do you really believe Chinese and French scientists would have abandoned their research if it was proving effective?
You need to grow up and start getting real here and stop posting nonsense from conspiracy theory websites.
The site carries a very prominent warning about posting COVID 19 misinformation and you are in breach of it by posting utter shite.
People have already died because of Trump's stupid endorsements.

Gateway Pundit - in your signature. The info is out of date and totally misleading. Hydroxychloroquine has been been disproved. You're flogging a dead horse at this stage, and promoting it is actually dangerous.

Your first report says 'No Study Results Posted on ClinicalTrials.gov for this Study'.

Your second is a small study of just 30 ppl, they found no measurable difference.

Your third talks of the positive effects of the drug: '
Hydroxychloroquine can reduce inflammation, pain, and swelling, and is widely used to treat rheumatic diseases. It is also used as an anti-malarial drug. Lab tests showed promising results, but accumulating trial and observational evidence has called into question whether there are any meaningful clinical benefits for patients with covid-19.

Despite this, hydroxychloroquine has already been included in Chinese guidelines on how best to manage the disease, and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an emergency use authorization to allow the drug to be provided to certain hospitalized patients. The FDA has since warned against use outside clinical trials or hospital settings due to the risk of heart rhythm problems.'

Your evidence shows small tests as inconclusive but shows that hydroxychloroquine is a useful drug that is included in Chinese guidelines on how best to manage the disease, and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an emergency use authorization to allow the drug to be provided to certain hospitalized patients.

None of this substatiates your lazy claim that use of the drug is a conspiracy.

It is merely reporting from a survey of 6,227 doctors.

If its a dead horse why are so many doctors saying hydroxychloroquine has been deemed the most highly rated treatment for the novel coronavirus?

Masks don't cover the eyes. Goggles are also required.
Those of us with glasses can now officially laugh at the rest of you eagle eyed people.

(My only problem with free masks is that I fear it would exacerbate a phenomenon I already see becoming a problem, which is people throwing used masks on the street or leaving them in supermarket trolleys. So much for protection against infection.)
