The Garda commissioner is preparing himself for the worst following an extraordinary move by the British Attorney General.

The British AG has decreed that immunity from prosecution will be afforded in England, Wales and Northern Ireland of any person giving evidence before the Smithwick Tribunal.

It has been especially afforded to British Army agent Kevin Fulton.

This will most certainly lead to the exposing of a Garda mole described as "a then serving Garda Officer" with the brutal killings of RUC Chief Superintendent Harry Breen and Superintendent Bob Buchanan just outside Dundalk shortly after they leaving Dundalk Garda Station in March 1989.

Fulton also has vital information leading to the death of Cooley farmer Thomas Oliver who was a Garda Informer.

Oliver was abducted on two occasions and on the second occasion he was brutally murdered and his body left at Belleeks, Armagh in July 1991.

His death is also attributed to a Garda mole.

This is sensational

It sure is.

Could this now be used as an avenue of approach to discover teh Truth behind the Dublin & Monagan Bombing Atrocities and the current Garda cover up?

I mean does anyone seriously believe that all sets of Garda Documents relating to that terrible day have now gone missing?

I believe that this will be the catalyst for a major review of the Garda Siochana and I believe it should lead to an inquiry into the functions of the Gardai.
They have operated in the higher ranks with impunity.

It should also lead to investigation into the Dublin and Monaghan bombings but not without the investigation into the Gardai.

It is indeed amazing that the AG for England Wales and Northern Ireland has made this decision at this late hour.

The Smithwick tribunal was going no where without this assurance.

Will be very interesting to see what heads will roll.

The Gardai had to have had access to this information long ago.

There is no such person as Kevin Fulton, his name is Peter Keeley.

Good to see the British AG doing all in his power to encourage the truth (sic) in this instance. Perhaps he can furnish the full report into collusion in the six counties that has seen the release of only a couple of pages of the final Steven's Report while hundreds of pages remain unseen due to 'national security'.

who can trust the gardai - they have a lot of explaining to do. I feel a full enquiry into bombs in chapels, running over suspects in their own yards by paid informers are just the tip of the iceberg

'Kevin Fulton' makes up 99% of what he's ever said.

I sincerely hope it will. AGS are too unaccountable for their own good. They need to be brought down a few pegs.

It is a little known fact that the visit of Bucannan and Breen to Dundalk Station was not connected with subversive activity as we know it but was connected with subversives in the smuggling game.

An anti smuggling operation was due to begin in the North with Customs and excise personnel.

It was common belief at the time that a Garda known as Garda B was colluding with subversive elements and that he passed on the news that the Officers had left the station in Dundalk. A short time later they were ambushed and executed at Edenappa near Jonesboro.

Assistant Commissioner O'Dea for the Gardai said there was no evidence to show there was Garda collusion as did C/Supt Burney of the RUC.

However C/Supt Breen expressed reservations on travelling to Dundalk as he stated that Garda B whom he named was colluding with the IRA.

C/Supt Common of the RUC also found evidence pointing to Garda B and Fulton made a statement stating he was in Dundalk on the day and his PIRA associate(he was under cover) informed him that Garda B passed on the information.

It shall be very interesting if not explosive when the evidence begins.

This is nothing more than sheer unadulterated hypocrisy from the British Attorney General. If a load of sub-species paddies want to find out how and why dozens of their innocent citizens were killed by bombings well they can whistle for it. Every effort will be made to subvert the truth here. If a couple of Crown forces get killed during their oppresive reign well every stone must be overturned including churning out guff made up by so-called informants if needs be. British rule in Ireland is a cancer that must be removed before it destroys our society any more than it has done already.

from memory were the ira not supposed to just kidnap the officers and try an elicit from them on who gave them information regarding some other smuggling operation.

The ira also stated that the killings happened because the officers tried to escape and reversed their cars.
The truth is the officers were unarmed and having shot them a gunman came up to them and shot each in the head.

In a show of contempt some of the gunmen did not were balaclavas. Guess they wanted the officers to know who shot them

The corry report referred to a statement made to a radio station by the IRA.

On the 11.00pm radio news on 22 March 1989 the following statement was made:
“In their statement the IRA says that after shooting the police officers dead they searched the vehicle in which the two RUC men were travelling from their security talks with the Gardaí in Dundalk and they found the confidential documents. They say the documents relate to cross-border collaboration with the security forces but they don’t give any further specific details. The IRA say that the two top officers were shot dead after their car came to one of a number of checkpoints which the IRA claims they were operating on the Monday. They also say that the policemen acted suspiciously and attempted to drive off. Then, according to the IRA statement, the IRA volunteers feared their own lives could be in danger and they took what they called ‘preventative action’ to prevent the RUC men’s escape.”
2.48 The claim of self-defence, although imaginative, seems to have very little to do with either reality or veracity.
The Cory collusion enquiry makes very interesting reading

IRA Garda collusion informer gets immunity

A Tribunal in Dublin investigating possible collusion between republicans and gardai in the murder of two RUC officers will give immunity to witnesses – including an IRA informer.

Mr Justice Peter Smithwick will investigate the killings of Chief Superintendent Harry Breen and Superintendent Robert Buchan-an by the IRA in an ambush after the officers had left a meeting in Dundalk Garda Station in March 1989.

The tribunal was set up in May 2005 to investigate claims of collusion between at least one garda and the IRA. Key witnesses including former members of the British security services and a man who claims to have worked undercover in the IRA have so far refused to cooperate fully with the probe.

They said they risked prosecution by revealing what they had done and for breaching the Official Secrets Act..
