Just breaking now. Garda going on strike on four dates in November

GRA votes to take industrial action in November

The Garda Representative Association has voted to take industrial action following the rejection of pay proposals negotiated with the Department of Justice last week.

In a statement the GRA said the action includes "a unilateral withdrawal of services" on 4, 11, 18 and 25 November.
The Blueshirts Vs the Blue Line.

My money is on an utter capitulation by the Government or a snap election!

Security and safety of the community must come before pay squabbles.

We'll have a lot of waffling but I expect a solution will be reached without a strike. It could have interesting consequences for the individuals who don't show for duty and for any crime victims during a strike.

Will we even notice,

Maybe some of the force will dress in civvies and go around committing crime to show us how much we need them

Maybe if they had got off their arses and went into Anglo in 2008 they might have had a lot less cuts to their allowances

AGSI leadership on shaky ground if found to be actively organising a strike. If this goes ahead they should be dealt with mercilessly.

Damn right.
Government should pay up straight away.

I look forward to watching this thread go from lads insulting the garda (donuts etc etc) to an increase in shrillness as the dates come closer (appeal to morality and whatnot). If a deal has not been struck by the night before I expect people to be stocking up on tins of beans and throwing knives.

It's gonna be tropic :D

Gardaí have mortgages to pay too. This is an arm of the state protesting against the state. Should not be allowed come to this. People need to get in a room and work this out.

Are they striking to protest at government refusal to enforce discipline in the force?

Or at its failure to protect whistleblowers?
More their pay off for keeping schtum.
