Looks like AGS are finally getting their act together to tackle the sham marriage industry that operates here

Turns out a staggering 2,100 sham marriages took place here 2011-2015 that went undetected

Hopefully the culprits will be deported after serving a hefty prison sentence...!

Gardai are spearheading a Europe-wide investigation after uncovering an Irish-based international bogus marriage scheme being used to obtain EU residency for illegal immigrants, including sex offenders and suspected Isil supporters.
The Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) and the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) in Dublin are co-ordinating the massive probe in conjunction with Eurojust, Europol and police in several EU states, which is targeting the multi-million euro criminal enterprise facilitating sham marriages mostly between Asian men and female EU citizens.
The move was prompted after GNIB officers in Ireland smashed an elaborate network that had organised more than 2,100 fake registry office marriages here between non-EU males and non-Irish female EU citizens from 2011 to 2015.

Good question

All in all I think AGS are on the ball but we need more Cops on the Beat and much better resources

Prevention is better than cure and that's where the system falls down

Also the Courts and Judiciary need serious Reform

- a lot of the Judges are just out of touch airheads IMO

I notice my thread on the recent case of the Bangladeshi man who joined up had been removed lock stock and smoking barrel ....:|

But whatever about his guilt or innocence [which remains to be legally decided I think] the recruitment screening needs to be seriously tightened up...

Lots of Indian fellas in retail shops here with an eastern European wife, The thing is tho, the eastern European girls live with the Indian guys and work with them in the shops so how does one prove it's a loveless marriage? Maybe they grow to love each other?

So let’s that divide that into 2 parts.

1 (much less concerning): it’s not great that people are entering the country to work on sham marriages. Let’s nab those people and get rid of them and criminally prosecute the residents who abetted it. Boo to that.

2 (far more concerning): “including sex offenders and suspected Isil supporters. “ The veracity of their marriage shouldn’t come into that. I don’t care if they truly love Ann or Barry from Middleton: if the constitutional protection of the family is being stretched to include sex offenders and terror supporters, we need to snap it back.

If he's Barry from Middleton, I would immediately get suspicious that he was claiming to have links to the British royal family. Maybe he is from Wales and has fled to Ireland to escape the pandemonium of BREXIT? Midleton is a town in Co. Cork and is well-known for haute cuisine so Barrabas could be a cook who specialises in halal food and also does some butchering.

So does this guy still get to apply for citizenship...it looks like it

AN INDIAN businessman and his pretend bride from Latvia have been spared jail over a “sham marriage” which allowed him remain in Ireland and set up a successful chain of sandwich bars.

Pankaj Pandey, 29, with an address at Kings Court, Mungret Street, Limerick and his wife through a “marriage of convenience”, Dace Beikmane, 29, who now lives at Gleneagles Avenue, Leicester, in England were given suspended sentences on Tuesday.

They were arrested by detectives from as part of Operation Vantage – a crackdown on immigration offences and marriages of convenience....
....He came to Ireland on a student visa in 2006 but after completing his studies wanted to remain here and after paying a “facilitator” about €7,000 he married Beikmane in 2012. She had come here looking for work and was easily led, the court was told....
....Pleading for leniency Pandey’s solicitor Michael French asked the court to note that his client had come here to and completed accounting and business studies courses. He ran five Subways and one Four Star Pizza branch and employed 30 people.

The court heard that he was now applying for citizenship but his future in Ireland was at risk as a result of this prosecution....
....The court heard that Operation Vantage has led to a number of prosecutions but most of them had have resulted in suspended sentences.

Sentencing, Judge Owens said the prosecution could have potentially serious ramifications for Pandey and he had made a serious misjudgement in trying to regularise his position.

She imposed a four-month sentence but suspended it on condition he does not re-offend in the next two years.
Only in Ireland can you come to study on a student visa and 6 years later still be here arranging a sham marriage.
And as usual, more hard work from the Gardai getting little recognition in the courts from the Judiciary

Another one...no jail time, just an escorted free fight home after making €1m+, not to mention the social welfare/asylum bills he racked up while here for 10 years

Muhammad “Romi” Ramzan (40) from Pakistan did his best to laugh off the interruption. But seven days later he is back in Pakistan, having been deported on Tuesday after a week in Cloverhill Prison.

His is a tale of modern organised crime.

Born on January 1st, 1978, the authorities in Ireland first became aware of him in 2008 when he sought asylum. He was one of 3,866 foreign nationals to do so that year, 237 of them Pakistani.

The result was against him so he appealed. In December, 2009, the Refugee Appeals Tribunal rejected his case. But by now he had a fall-back plan. Then aged 31, he married a 20-year-old Latvian woman.

The wedding, such as it was, took place in Clonmel, Co Tipperary, in the same month his application for asylum was rejected on appeal.
As a newly married man, with a bride from the EU, he applied in January 2000 for residency. He was successful and given permission – under a Stamp 4 EU-Fam endorsement to his passport – to remain in the State for at least five years, to July 2015.

In the years that followed his marriage, gardaí noticed the number of Asian men applying for asylum was rising fast. So fast, in fact, it was significantly skewing national asylum seeker trends.

Officers became convinced that about half of the marriages in Ireland in the 2½-year period to the middle of 2015 were bogus; motivated not by love, but by immigration status.

It meant well over 1,000 men, almost all Asian, paid between €15,000 and €20,000 each to criminals – some to Ramzan – who arranged their marriage in Ireland to European women they had never met before.

As the first inquiries were being made in 2013, before Operation Vantage formally began, Ramzan’s name continued to crop up in cases.

Gardaí decided to probe his own marriage and very quickly realised it was a sham. However, the Garda was more concerned about the sham marriages he was arranging....
....So prolific was his operation that the Garda inquiry linked Ramzan to the booking of more than 100 flights for brides. He also facilitated illegal immigration and the supply of false documents....
....Officers working on Operation Vantage recommended that his European Union treaty rights be cancelled, which they were. He was returned to being a failed asylum seeker with no standing in the Republic, or anywhere in Europe. As a result a deportation order was signed.

However, he refused to leave the State voluntarily or to present at designated Garda stations for deportation so the Garda National Immigration Bureau’s evader tracking unit was charged with looking for him.

That search brought a surveillance team to the Hills Cricket Club last Wednesday evening. Undercover officers were dotted around the cricket field to ensure he could not escape.

They pounced as he walked off the field during a break in play.

The question we all want answered is whether or not you are allowed use a substitute fielder in the circumstances?

Only having 10 fielders in a 20/20 is a killer.
